So I will be in the market for a new laptop early in the new year. I was pretty much set on either an xps 15 or 17 as I really like the displays and build quality isn't bad. I am very impressed however with the new macbook m1 offerings which seem to have great performance, run cool and have great battery life. I think a 13" macbook will be too small for me, so I'd have to wait for a 16" refresh.

Anyone else in this same position? I don't mind either OS, and can do my use cases on either platform as I'm not a gamer. Virtualisation, coding, web browsing and video editing are really what im after.

Interesting times ahead.....

Have you looked at the HP Envy series OP?

My youngest had one to replace our old 2011 MacBook Air when it finally died and loves it. About 55% of the price of the equivalent MacBook Pro.

Between the two, MacBook every time, I can't see the justification for the cost of the Dell. But I paid £650 for a Lenovo with a Ryzen 4700 and 16gb ram and it absolutely flies, and I've been impressed by the build quality

Forgot to update this thread, I got a great deal on a new M1 macbook pro, and its excellent. Much faster and cooler than any Windows laptops I've ever used. I'll be keeping an eye out for the 16" refresh next year and move back to a larget screen, but this should do me fine in the interim
