Hey folks

I'm entering the world of bike this coming monday, well it's a 2017 honda pcx 125, i already have bought an Oxford monster 2m lock and chain to go into a Oxford silver ground anchor, but i'm stuck on what disc lock to buy, i was going to go with the Oxford boss, but it's a little out of budget and plus i dont think it would fit would it? does anyone have any suggestions? Budget is around £30/£40

Thanks in advance

The Oxford Screamer gets loads of good reviews and lives up to its name, might be worth having a look at that.

Yeah thats one of my options, was worried about the 7mm pin fitting into the disc lock though

Budgets are made to be broken...plus I agree with Clov!s a little scoot like that is going to be a scum magnet.

cheers folks will the likes of the Abus granite and Oxford Monster style disc locks fit the PCX then?, and i agree completely with what your all saying about buying better, just thought there might have been an hidden gem for around my budget, with this being my first venture into the two wheel world i see i have a lot to learn.

You should be able to drop the shackle through the gap between the disc and wheel hub in the case of that abus lock, rather than the pin ones which usually go through the drilled hole in the disc.

On a 125, unless it's rare, I wouldn't spend more than my insurance excess.
A disc lock and chain to ground anchor both should be a good enough deterrent, especially for a 125. If you're using the disc lock out an about, if someone really wants it, they'll pick it up and chuck it in van.

But this is just my opinion.

Yup unless it's anchored to the ground, they'll just lift it. If your worried have you looked in to one of these tracking devices, hide it under the seat or tank etc?

Disclocks are mainly just to stop someone casually wheeling it away.
Remember to put it right up tight behind the brake caliper, so if you forget to remove it and try riding off you'll only have 2" travel and a gentle bump... put it the other side and you'll go several feet, before launching yourself over the bars!!

This, or anything with a similar key pattern. Xena used to do a decent series of alarmed disclocks, and Aldi/Lidl sometimes have the same in their bike specials.
If the lock looks anything like your Yale style front door, or the circular ones on vending machines, chances are they can be bumped/raked open in seconds.

Trackers are often defeated once they get it inside a van.

Chains are great, but the ideal would be lashing it to something immovable (not a bollard, where you just lift it off), so you keep the chain off the ground. That way they can't use the ground to brace bolt croppers - That's why I've never been a fan of ground anchors, if you have other options.

Secured covers are suprisingly good, as thieves tend to steal to order and go round casing the area before pegging targets. If they can't easily see what you've got they may well just ignore it and move on.

Yes i have, it will be the next purchase i think aswell as a dash camera of some sort but i don't have a clue about them either so going to do some googling, as for all you other guys, thanks for the comments, appreciate it, the Scoot will be stored in a padlocked brick outhouse which is right below my bedroom and the padlocks are pretty meaty on there already, so hopefully ill hear any commotion if the worst happens, the anchors going in there, probably on the wall or floor, i havent decided yet, the oxford monster i know isn't perfect but i'm hoping its a decent deterrent along with the abus disc lock.

Thanks again folks, i'm sure it won't be long before im starting another thread about Tracking devices and "Dashcams"

I've used a:

xena alarmed lock (14mm shackle) - very loud alarm, overly sensitive, went off by itself all the time, had to take the batteries out as got sick of ******* off the neighbours when it would go off by itself for no reason in the middle of the night.

Abus granit detecto - poorly made from thin cast metal(I imagine you could removed it with a chisel or a long spanner to crack the case easily), alarm wasn't loud enough, horrible design, the locking ball-bearings would fall out.

oxford boss alarmed disc lock - not as loud as the xena, but seems okay. No false alarms. Also something of a lottery if it goes off at all sometimes - sometimes move it to unlock and no alarm sounds!

If I were going to get another disc lock I'd get the Abus Granit victory X-plus 68, though it's a bit over budget at around £70.

I use a Xena when travelling. It's position on the disc determines it's sensitivity.

I attach to the bottom of the disc hanging down (lowest sensitivity) and rarely get false activations. Will go off if you touch the bike though!
