Which discs and pads?

Could do with replacing the front discs and pads on my Mondeo (2004 TDCI), will do the job myself but wondering if anyone had any recommendations for which discs and pads to use?

The car (obviously) isn't used on a track and it's never really driven in anger, I just want something of good quality that wont cost a fortune.

Would OE be best or are there any good quality aftermarket ones that aren't expensive and performance focussed?

I'm assuming the Zetec-S uses the same brakes as the rest of the range? (the suspension's different which is why I thought the brakes might be different too)

Also, EuroCarParts list quite a few different discs and it says "priced per disc" but under details it says "Quantity: 2", I presume this means you need to order 2 but get a single box with a pair?

Cheers all!

Unless the Mondeo's brakes are bad by default then just get oem stuff :)
No point spending money on performance parts when your driving it as it was designed to be driven

£75+VAT for discs alone for Motorcraft (OE) ones! Would be about £150 in parts alone for OE it seems - bearing in mind I was quoted £300 for front and rear discs and pads fitted (Brembo discs and Ferodo pads), OE is looking like an unnecessarily expensive option.

The rear's are on their way too but probably have a few thousand miles left on them, hence me getting a quote for both axles

I like my EBC greenstuffs although the yellowstuffs are meant to be brilliant.

You can't go far wrong with Mintex or Ferodo though.

where did you get the brembo's done before?

Didn't have them done, just had a quote when the car was in for an aircon regas - a place in Exeter. If it's local to you I'll pass on the details?

There's quite a few Mintex sets on the bay for £40~£50 which seems like a good price, wasnt sure if the brand was any good though

I got the Mintex discs and pads on mine and they seem fantastic, blatting round Yorkshire roads all day didn't see a bit of fade.

Got them off eBay, pads and discs, for £39 posted! :)

Awesome - will go for the mintex

If I career into a tree after changing them, i'll be coming after you ;)

^ I had mintex discs and pads allround on my ST170 and they were spot on tbh. Not as much bite as oem when cold (eg first couple of mins on the road) even after 2-3mins of normal driving though they seemed to gain a lot of bite.

I put Mintex on my ST TDCi - no problems with braking, the only criticism was the hubs of the discs weren't galvanised and went orange rusty and looked a bit unsightly but it was easily sorted with a wire brush on my drill one afternoon.

I did the whole lot in one go and the bits were less than £100. Just beware there are 2 types of rear pads - later cars have Bosch calipers with pads with sqaure ends, the older ones have rounded ends and need to be fitted carefully with copper grease in the right places or they are very prone to binding. You also want a wind-back tool for the pistons.

Cool glad to see more people endorsing them. As I say, the rears will need doing in a few k miles but there's a bit more left in them yet.

I've already done the pads on the front (cruddy halfords own pads which wont shut up) and used a G clamp to push the pistons back, worked fine :)

I think one of the front discs is wearing slightly unevenly though, got a pulsating sqeaking noise at about 30mph which goes when I dab the brakes, so hoping replacing them will gain me a few mpg too!

Mintex are usually the manufacturer of OEM items anyway, and are cheaper to obtain as an 'aftermarket' part.

No point in paying grooved and drilled whatever unless that's OEM spec. I always ran OEM on my CTR and although driven hard they brakes were fine for me. It seems on the internet as soon as OEM items are dead they must buy shiny cool expensive items. If it aint broke (or the car aint modified or driven on track), don't fix it :)

Good advice - I definitely wouldn't go fitting grooved/drilled discs to a derv Mondeo that spends most of it's life on a dual carriageway.

Likewise though, I don't want to get any old cheap crap that's going to risk braking efficiency when I need it!

Mintex /thread.

Managed to get some Disks and Pads for the back of my 306 from Ebay, very cheap & Very good :)

I just paid £150 for OEM disc and pads all round for my st220. That included new fluid too.

Uprated discs and pads just for the front were going to cost me double that.
