sorry to have to post this, but tried searching/reading threads but i'm note quite sure what i need

got a MSI HD 6850 "Dual Fan Edition", have used 1 dvi connection (to monitor), 1 hdmi connection (to tv) and want to connect up to a 2nd monitor.
the displays all run separately so no need for eyefinity etc.
all i want to know is do i need a passive or active adapter to plug into the display port so i can use a standard dvi cable to plug into the dvi slot on my 2nd monitor.
i THINK i need an active adapter, as i'm not going from display port to display port, but would like someone to clarify things so i don't end up wasting money on something that doesn't work.
