Which DLNA Server?

I'm using a WD Live box with WDLX firmware and Win 7 64 bit.

I'm after something easy to use and fast.

I'm trying to use tvmobili which worked before but for some reason I cannot get to the config page, and I remember it being clunky before...

Yep, when I was still using my WDTV Live I just pointed it at the shares off the NAS and had it access, decode and play the files back itself. Worked for 90%+ of the files I had the playback (and it's more than likely there was something wrong with the encode on the ones which didn't work)

Adding a DLNA server into the mix seems an unnecessary complication.

could you not DL a free linux distro and set up some shares on a low power pc. then use WOL to awaken from sleep when your needing to stream?

its what i do and even on lowly wireless 'g' to my laptops it can stream most content just fine (although lan is preferable

MythTV on a lightweight HTPC is, to me, the only real solution.

It's not much more expensive than one of the standalone boxes and potentially cheaper if you have a few components lying around.

what makes mythtv overly complicated ?

i find mythtv to be one of the best media center software, especialyl if you plan to use TV as well as standard media.

the backend also runs as a DLNA server for other front end media centers to use

For the WD Live I'd stick to standard shares. I have a Popcorn Hour and use hanewinn nfs to stream to that in the bedroom. I recently bought a Samsung BDP6500 to replace the Popcorn downstairs and run TVMobili on my PC to stream to that. Works no problem.

I use Wild media server for my WDlive.

Reason I use it is that when streaming high bitrate files from a network share there is stuttering but when it is streamed via the DLNA server the file plays fine.

Its not a bandwidth issue on the network but apparently an issue with the WDlive.

Wild media server is pretty good although it isn't free.
