Hi all.

I don't know if this is in the right section of the forum or not, but here goes:

I am changing ISP's and would like to make a new email address for my parents which is NOT with my new ISP - because if I end up changing ISP's again it gets frustrating keep changing email addresses.

I am thinking about using gmail, but would it be better to buy a domain and just use it for emails?
If so, what is the best/cheapest site for domains and emails?
My parents would want to keep this email address for many years and they want good support if for some reason they stop working, etc.

Any help would be great.

Thirded. I used to run my own mail server for my domain but a month or two ago I scrapped it and just setup the DNS servers to forward all email to my G-Mail account. G-Mail even lets you edit the sender address so as far as anyone else is concerned it's as though you've got a 'proper' hosted address. Unless they inspect the headers of course but hey, who cares.

Hope this helps :)

Definitely Gmail.

Forward mail from the domain to Gmail, then go into Gmail's settings -> accounts. Go through the add account process and, as Mr. Brightside said, you can send on behalf of the domain's address. It's great, it centralises all your mail making it easy to manage, coupled with the awesome Gmail client. :)

Hi.

I don't know if I understand this correctly. I really know nothing about domains, etc.

So I have been to http://www.123-reg.co.uk and chosen a domain that I want, it does have email fowarding. I have not yet purchased it because I was to get this 100% clear.
Once I purschase the domain, what do I do?

I just don't see the point is purchasing a domain and then using gmail?
