guys i will be getting a akasa eclipse soon. i will be putting a 120.2 rad inside the case, no way am i having it piggy backing on the back of the case lol.

anyway i thought right i need a dremel. when i google it wow theres so many diff ones out there. which one is best? or which one is best for case modding. or are all of them good for case modding its just all about the bits on the the end of them?

ta

i thought they were all the same? as long as it has a speed adjuster then you can buy the "bits" on there own. you can get cheap and nasty from your supermarket nowadays or spend more at diy stores.
mine has a pencil attachment? which is quite useful for tricky work, if that helps?

I have a Aldi £20 hobby drill, does the job and cuts through steel.

ok i think i will go for the one mentioned above 400-80. however will i need all the bits that come with it to mod my case? ive tried looking for the dremel 400 on its own but cant find 1. see i dont want to be paying for extra bits that i wont need when modding the eclipse. infact im so dumb i dont even know what bits i need.

Mr mac is there any chance of you telling me roughly what bits i need to mod the eclipse so i dont end up wasting money on bits i will never use. i like the sound of heavy duty bits that last longer. i will be cutting circles in the roof of the eclipse and prolly cutting the rails for the hard drive cage that sits above the cpu

stinka the one you mentioned also has a free 65 piece cutting set that comes with it http://www.tool-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Kits.html#a1099. they must be cheap and nasty ones because that whole kit costs the same amount as the one bit that davemac mentioned. can these harder bits be purchased from b&q too? i will go to b&q today and check the prices.

sinny i just dont like the idea of a big rectangular radiator being stuck on the back of my pc. imo it makes the case look absolutley disgusting. also i have a central heating radiator near the back of pc. but even if i didnt have the central heating at the back of my pc i would still not piggy back the radiator. and dont ppl have problems with all wires that feed into the back of the pc?
another reason is that i want to mod my case, u know the challenge of it all and that.

just read squiffy's reply. hmmmm do i really need a 100 pound dremel? when i could do it with a 20 pound asda job? or would it be harder with the cheaper copy?

anyways thanks every1

I have two of them, and they have plenty of torque. One is a "Ferm" another Work Zone. Brother has used them to cut through fibreglass with no problems, and I've cut through steel bolts, thick polycarbonate FG shells, and PC steel casing, no problem.

The second one cost £15, and comes with engraver attachment, plus extension. Hell if you find it rubbish just use it for light work.

squiffy will the hardened dremel bits fit it? like say if i bought a 20piece dremel bit set. would they fit the ferm?

I'm not sure, I don't buy the Dremel bits. But Aldi has 101 piece kit for something like £3. Can't complain. :) I have used official Dremel "cutting discs" with the bundled mandel

The only bits I use for curved / small cuts are the HD cutting disks and the drum sander for smoothing and removing burrs. For large straight cuts I prefer a jigsaw and a medium/fine hand metal file to smooth off and remove burrs.

Cheapest place I've found for Dremel bits is direct from their web-site as I've linked in previous post.

i do all case holes with a jigsaw using a metal cutting blade

i only use the dremmel for removing burrs like davemac said

imo only buy the best of everything

you buy a dremmel 400 and you know it will last you a lifetime, but the £15 copy will prolly not last long under heavy use and will certainly loose power as bearings/bushes wear out quickly

but it depends on how much use you give it and if you only use it once a year maybe the chep one would be fine for you

u know when i was researching using dremel for pc case mods i got a whiff of ppl not using dremel to cut out holes in their pc's. they all used jigsaws. as for removing burrs i could just get my swiss files out. i thought many ppl cut 120mm holes in their cases with dremels, looks like thats not the case. i may not bother with the dremel now as my bro has a jigsaw.

I thought the best thing to use to cut a hole is a hole cutting bit that you just pop onto the end of a drill. In the near future i will be cutting my Stacker 810 up i was planning on using a jig saw and a file, as the fans will be on the inside of the case sucking air in.
