Price range £315-360 (unless there is a massive increase in quality and speed)

Not really clued up on what is the best ATM, you turn your head for a moment, and your out of date beyond repair! Well that's how it feels like.

Considering a core upgrade (CPU, MOBO & MEM) i currently have a AMD 3700 (939) SD, 2GB GeiL DC value ram & a EPOX 9NPA Sli mobo, hoping to get about £150 (a tenner less than i paid for the CPU!) for the lot, probably might struggle to get that, so was wondering what my C2D upgrade path was.

Cheers. :D

Cheers S-PW.

Any experience with the mobo?

Had my fingers burnt with the Epox i've got now, not a bad board, but the placing of the power input and the mobo fan is beyond criminal.

Are the CD2 boards passive as standard, they all look like it?

Are you going to overclock?

E6320 / E6420 / E6600
+
S3 / P5B / DS3P
+
OCZ Plat. 2Gb / Crucial Ballistix 2Gb

Depending on how much you want to spend and how much you get from your current spec.

I always say i will, but never do. Was going to with the setup but didn't in the end as i felt i didn't have sufficient cooling to try it as it would have been my 1st attempt.

If i go get a new core then i will get a good CPU cooler with it, but then again just forking out £350+ i probably will bottle it again :D

I built a new machine yesterday using just that motherboard. Similar spec to yours, 2 gigs of ram, an e6600 and a 8800GTS and it went very well, couldnt fault the mobo at all, well laid out and easily configured and so far its been great.

What i like to hear.

What looks like passive cooling & the power input is on the side of the board, not sitting under the CPU socket on my current epox

I don't have the motherboard personally unfortunately - poor student and all that but I know a lot of people who do or the earlier revision, the DS3, and they seem very happy with it for overclocking. The DS3P being a later revision has had some extra features added such as firewire and Crossfire plus all the bugs from the original should have been ironed out. :)

Yeah just took time out to read a review about it, sound good.

An overclockers dream, unfortunately am not an OC'er by nature, although if i was going to have a bash then this would be a good start.

Any idea what the on-board sound is like?
