Which email client?

For many a year I've used the included Outlook express and it didn't really do anything wrong that I can remember.
Maybe it was the crap spam filtering that made me migrate to Thunderbird, I forget.
That too has been pretty undramatic, my only gripe is the spell checker/dictionary plugin must be borked or something as it underlines EVERY word whether spelt right or not.

So before I shove one of those two on this new install is there something else I should be having a sniff at?
Please extol its virtues below...

I'm still using proper Outlook - integrates well with Exchange server and reasonable anti-spam.

The exchange integration is essential as then my smart phone will sync contacts and calender along with email - over the TMobile web n walk 3G so i always get my mail on the move.

Been using Live mail for a few weeks now, nice little client :)
The only problem I had with this is that I didn't think the notification of a new mail was clear enough. Was I missing something clearly obvious?

I am using Thunderbird at the moment, though.

Nope, I don't think so as that's my only gripe with it too, the fact that it notifies me of new email when it's moved every one of them into the junk folder really annoys me, however the fact that it is far better at detecting junk than thunderbird outweighs the annoyance by a fair bit.

I missed all the replies as I haven't got an email client :D

I've gone through the dictionaries and it's the same one as Firefox uses and that is fine.
Spell checks these fields fine anyway!

Other issues with the pc means I am unable to install MSN / live messenger at the moment so, that's down as well. :( ( I know I can get at the webmail side of it)
Not looked into live mail as a standalone client, I've always used it off the back of MSN messenger.

I use Outlook. I tried Thunderbird but found it annoying.

Outlook is slow and loading web links takes ages. I will try the suggestions by jbloggs.

Outlook.

Nothing else comes close.

Mine isn't slow at anything, how are you using Outlook? Exchange Server? POP3? IMAP4?

As a pure email client it is very similar infact i find it quicker to run and navigate (and sylpheed is even better on really low spec machines). For calendaring, exchange support etc. it doesn't really have a rival, yet :) Evolution and the evolution server set may catch up but not at the moment.

web based gmail, unbeatable interface

it's a little strange at first because if someone replies to an email, it turns it into a 'thread' type view, but that's the best thing about it

plus the spam filter is second to none, i get probably 1 a month in my inbox, max

Agreed, i used to use software based email clients, but i hated being tied down to a PC, by having local copies etc... Obviously exchange and imap sort this out, but Gmail does that too, i can't see a reason for not using GMail unless you really need an exchange server for some reason...

Interface is there and perfect in case you're stuck on a computer with a decent (and/or) setup email client, and if you really dont like it, you can connect to it with an email client! Best of both worlds!

Privacy.

The day i let my companies or my own email run through 3rd party servers will be a cold day in hell. I can't put a price tag on being able to physically unplug my email server(s) in the unlikely even of something really nasty going on, not to mention things like corporate secrets waving their way around the web when they're just internal memos.

If you don't want to pay for Exchange, you get all the same functionality with Scalix mail server which is free (but less integrable in some situations) Plus there's the usual suspects for IMAP/POP accounts (postfix, sendmail, dovecot, courier etc)
