Hey all i am some what torn as to what type of exhaust to get and would look best on my 200sx. I'm looking for something louder than stock but not too loud to eventually become and annoyance on the motorway.

So do i get Apex cat back stainless exhaust system

http://www.apexperformance.co.uk/ca...28&PHPSESSID=8cd371243fc6e47c0bc747a0c5466279

Now according to a thread over at sxoc this exhaust is 98dB(A) @ 4,500 rpm stock exhaust is 82db(A)@4500rpm

or Apex twin exit 'sensible' cat back exhaust http://www.apexperformance.co.uk/ca...96&PHPSESSID=8cd371243fc6e47c0bc747a0c5466279

This one has the standard look to it and is 92dB(A) @ 4,500 rpm

Naturally i am not limited to just these so recommendations are welcome.

Cheers

Daz

Personally I'd go with the twin exit pipe, but that's just my taste and aesthetics.

Loud cars can get tiresome quite quickly :(

Personally if the car is styled then I would go for a dragger style (ie single big exhaust), if its stock then a simple dual pipe would be my choice.

Remember that for every 10dB, the loudness doubles so that other exhaust is gonna be well over double as loud at the same rpm.

I will probably remain stock looking for a good while bar clear front and side indicators and later on possibly wheels later on.

for now i am concentrating and internal modifications priorities the moment are handling and braking. The exhaust is getting replaced now as the current one is blowing slightly.

Isn't it every 3db..?

Nope thats power that doubles every 3. The "loudness" is just the perceived volume so although the power output is doubled every 3dB, the actual loudness to the human ear doubles roughly every 10dB. I said loudness earlier as dealing with power is pretty meaningless when trying to determine the volume perceived by the ear.

I've got the apex sensible system on mine and it's not that quiet. There's an annoying boominess at about 2500-3500 rpm with the decat in so mine's had the cat in since the last MOT as it makes it much quieter. I really should get round to getting a silenced decat as the cat does drop the performance noticably.

s14 just needs to have a JDM tyte system with 5" tailpipe and stupid angled box meaning the pipe scrapes on speed humps :p

Fwiw, Blitz Nur are good on them, loud as hell though so take that into account.

Blitz Nur are very loud exhausts, especailly if you go with a decat too.

If you want to though, the removable bung does calm them down a fair bit.

Personally, i'd go for the dustbin style exit, but I am a JDM ****.

It's the 21st century, why can't exhaust manufacturers upload audio clips of their exhausts so you can hear what they sound like? Guitar pickup/humbucker companies manage it!
