Which fan controller?

Thanks, Yewen. I'd read some reviews that were questioning the USB2.0 performance but can't for the life of me find them - maybe the latest firmware has resolved said issues.

Does anyone you know on the forum have one? I'd like to tap them up for their comments if possible. I'd a wee bit scared about buying one as it looks quite complicated for someone like me who probably doesn't know what they are doing!

WJA96 has one.

I will be getting the OcUK stocked one, if its still in stock, in 2 days time after having a play with one I convinced a mate to get :D

Its a plug in and software control.

I will get more specifics, but he managed to get it working so I can imagine anyone can :)

And he did. You do need the latest firmware and software from the website or it derfaults to usb 1.1, but it's not a problem as you are only passing a few sensor values back and forth. If you're worried, get the PCI slot one.

I love it. I particularly love the silence. I don't have any fans running at all at the moment. Even the CPU fan is stopped. It's a speedstep and it's quite happy to run at 1.6GHz with the fan off.

For the optimum use though, you need a lot of fans. The big benefit is that you can link up multiple fans to 1 temperature - say the graphics card temperatures are rising, then you can bring the front and back fans on together. If the HDD temps are coming up, then the front fan is turned up a bit. You can also define your own curves for how the fans ramp up with the temperature. With my current processor, the fan does nothing until 60C is hit, then the fan comes in at 75% and comes on at 100% if the temperature reaches 70C.

I agonized for days over whether to get the digital or analogue one. In the end I bought the analogue as it was cheaper and I still cannot see any benefit from having the digital one. It will stop my YS-TECH FD1238's and you can run them at 10rpm. That's really slow. It does reduce the life of the fans though - say the fan would have lasted 10 years, now it will only last 9 and a half :D

I'd recommend it. It's the most entertainment I've had with a PC in a long time.

Ahh, thanks for dropping in, WJA.

I thought the PCI slot model fed off a molex connector and a USB port as with the XL version? From the pictures it doesn't appear to have a PCI interface?

With regard to the analogue/digital models, is there a different product code for the analogue one? I presume the OcUK offering is the digital version and you bought yours elsewhere?

You're right about the PCI card version. I'm sure the SL2 had a built-in USB Card , but the SL4 seems to need an internal connector which is a bit pointless. The one I have is marked TBAN-XL+ES and it has the normal digital inputs plus it has 6 analogue inputs and 2 inputs for water flowmeters.

Interestingly, OcUK were selling the 2 different versions, but now only seem to have the cheaper one.

I bought mine elsewhere as OcUK have only recently started selling them.

I made my own from a Zalman and spare Lian-Li bezel.

Short work log here

Very nice probably would have left the M3 bolts off and double sided/glued it on, may give that ago myself

I think I remember seeing that one listed on the OcUK site - the picture showed it with an orange acrylic casing?

Do you connect yours up using an internal USB cable running to a jumper on your motherboard or do you have the external USB cable connected? I don't really fancy the idea of trailing a USB cable through a PCI slot and back into a port on the rear of the machine!

Oooooo.

YEWEN TRICK ALERT!!!!

If ever you need to run a device, say a pen drive, internally for a length of time then get a old USB PCI plate, with a couple of ports on.

Unscrew the ports from the plate, and you have a internal USB adapter. :D

How neat is that eh!

Brilliant news. Now all I need is for Gibbo to stick them on TWO and I'm sorted.

Thanks for taking the time out to answer my questions, WJA. And thanks to Yewen for his input and assistance.

Just took delivery of my T-Balancer and everything looks alright, but I should really learn to read the specs first. :(

Only two digital sensors came with the unit, and stupid me had read the reviews and thought that 4 were coming with it. That'll learn me!

Anyway, I'll probably end up buying the six-pack of additional sensors from the M-Cubed online store, so if anyone fancies going 50:50 with me on the price for 3 sensors of their own, just let me know.

I posted this one earlier DigitalDoc5,well i've just got one off the auctions :p £11 :D don't mind ripping it apart and trying to fit it in my lian-li bezel at that price if it pans out i'll let you know if it's any good ;)
