And he did. You do need the latest firmware and software from the website or it derfaults to usb 1.1, but it's not a problem as you are only passing a few sensor values back and forth. If you're worried, get the PCI slot one.
I love it. I particularly love the silence. I don't have any fans running at all at the moment. Even the CPU fan is stopped. It's a speedstep and it's quite happy to run at 1.6GHz with the fan off.
For the optimum use though, you need a lot of fans. The big benefit is that you can link up multiple fans to 1 temperature - say the graphics card temperatures are rising, then you can bring the front and back fans on together. If the HDD temps are coming up, then the front fan is turned up a bit. You can also define your own curves for how the fans ramp up with the temperature. With my current processor, the fan does nothing until 60C is hit, then the fan comes in at 75% and comes on at 100% if the temperature reaches 70C.
I agonized for days over whether to get the digital or analogue one. In the end I bought the analogue as it was cheaper and I still cannot see any benefit from having the digital one. It will stop my YS-TECH FD1238's and you can run them at 10rpm. That's really slow. It does reduce the life of the fans though - say the fan would have lasted 10 years, now it will only last 9 and a half
I'd recommend it. It's the most entertainment I've had with a PC in a long time.
