All I want is something simple and not tacky looking to control my fan speeds.

It doesn't need to have lights or a fancy LCD, but I would consider it if the price was right.

What are my options?

Zalman ZM-MFC2 Multi Fan Controller with builtin Real-time display of overall PC power consumption (30watt min to 800watt max)

(So you be able to see how much power your system drawing as well)

I have an Akasa fan controller Jr, very basic - no LED's. Does the job for me and fits in to a small 3.5" bay rather than a 5.25".

same, i have 3 of them all attached to 12cm blue LED fans, 9x 12cm fans, like a wind tounel :D

The trouble with the Akasa jr is that I really don't need the two usb ports.

I have plenty of spair 5 1/4" bays I can use.

I don't know, a lot of these things seem OTT. That said the power consumption monitor on the zalman is really tempting. How reliable is it?

Was going to ask same question, that Zalman looks lovely, just what I'm looking for for my new case.
BTW what colour case has it to fit in?
