Which fan controller?

Hi guys, over the weekend I set up my first watercooling loop. I'm really pleased with it but I find the fans are way too loud.

I have a Corsair 650D with the XSPC Raystorm EX240 kit. I'm using 2x Corsair SP120 Performance Edition fans on the radiator along with a 200mm Coolermaster Megaflow in the front of the case.

I'm not looking for anything fancy but i've heard that some fan controllers won't control the SP120s properly, anyone got any recommendations?

Do you have an Asus mobo?

If not, have a look at the Lamptron Fc6/Fc5 if you like LED readouts. If not, there are plenty of other options

Nah, just a fairly standard Gigabyte Z77-D3H.

surely teh gigabyte board must support fan control??

They do in the form of the horribly clunky ET6 software and the bios. ET6 uses a point graph percentage method and I'm not sure how it does with 3pin fans tbh.

Personally, I'd rather use manual control with either Asus fanxpert or a dedicated fan controller. (Or both in my case)

ED: unless they've come out with something better?

This one can give up to 20W per channel, which is way more than your fans will need and can even take the vast majority of WCing pumps unlike other fan controllers which are only 10 and 12W.

+ I have feels for aluminium brush finish.

I've got a Nesteq one at the minute and while it is good, I am probably going to get a Lamptron one next. The cable management alone is a LOT simpler, plus you can select from a number of funky colours for the readouts :cool:

I just bought this Lian - Li controller, I have to say it's absolutely beautiful, it has LEDs to indicate the fan speed of each channel and it comes with 3 extension cables I think they are 45cm.

Think I might go for that Akasa one as the brushed finish would match my XSPC X2O 750 quite well.

Great choice, you will be hard pressed to overload a 20w channel with fans or a DDC pump, while i have busted a few fan controller channels by just whacking on two fans via splitter on a single channel.

6 channels should be plenty in my 650D, would even be enough to go push-pull on the rad.
