Hi,

I am having problems with my computer switching off after a while and have worked out that it is a temperature problem. I have a 8800 GTX, 6.7QX Quad core and 850kW of power.

I am using the heatsink fan that came with the package but don't think it is up to much and also I need suggestions as to how many additional fans I should have for better circulation (and what make to go for).

The computer only switches off when running high end requirements programs amking the computer work hard, the majority of applications work fine.

My cpu temperature shows at 90C+ which seems very high.

Thanks for any help you can give.

90C!!!

Yikes, don't think the HSF is seated correctly, get yourself AC5 and a Tuniq Tower and then maybe some Yate Loon or Scythe fans to improve airflow.

Oh btw I doubt you have a 850 Kilowatt PSU :p ;)

one way of making sure the ihs isn't causing you grief is to remove it :) i've done it on a couple of amd procs but not on a c2d, it's definitly an improvment

Lapping is is considerably less risky.

OK I decided to just go out and buy a decent heatsink fan this afternoon (still only £25). Put it in and temperature is now 50-55C and best of all not power off's.

Guess it was just a really poor heatsink fan they provided (it did look poor quality compared to the one I got).

Thanks anyway guys for all the input, it was appreciated.

when the IHS is welded on, its pretty hard to remove without breaking something.

not like the A64s, where all you needed was a razor!
