Iver got a new HDD to replace a failed unit inside my freeview recorder. Ive formatted the drive using NTFS and with exFAT ( the onbly 2 options vista allow ) but the freeview box keeop saying bad disc.

The replacement drive is a 200Gb Seagate drive and the old duff drive is a 80Gb deathstar.

Is it worth putting a 80Gb partition on the seagate and seeing what happens?

I dont have experience with that unit, but with Sky+/HD and with the various freeview recorders ive used, they all format it themselves. Always via the initial setup menu's.

Ok, i'll connect it back up to the PC and delete any partitions there are, thats the only option i havent tried. I got the seagate as it was the one recommended as being the best one to use for digital recorders

If you havnt tried it without partitions on it then that may be the answer, sky is the system i am most familiar with, that wont even see a HDD formatted via windows.

Well so far so good i had to reset the software but i could hear it doing something with the disc which i havent heard before so maybe it was formatting it, its scanning for channels now so fingers crossed :)

Well ive connected it back to the PC and after its been in the freeview box the PC dosent see it, even in disc management so i thibk letting the freeview box do it has broken it

EDIT : Doh hadnt plugged the usb cable in lol

I found this on the net, if it's any good.

Set the jumpers to master and replace the 80G HD in the PVR with the new one.

Then go to the recorded program listings page and type 4565. At the format HD dialogue click OK and wait for the format to complete. If the format takes no time at all the jumpers on the HD are probably set incorrectly.

During this process you may be requested to reset the software on the pvr or re-scan for channels. Just do as it asks and everything will be OK.

When you first fit the HD you may get an error on the screen and the LED display on the box suggesting that the HD is faulty or corrupt. Don't worry because the format will sort this out.

If all else fails, just replace the old HD and start again.
