Hi all,

I will be starting a photography course soon. Nothing fancy, just a night course. It seems I'm going to need a half decent flash. No idea what I should be looking at to be honest so any help would be appreciated.

So far I've narrowed it down to either;

A brand new Yongnuo YN-565 i-TTL (£100)
A second hand Nikon SB600 (around £150)

Don't really want to spend more unless I have to. Any comments on my selections or maybe there is one I've missed.

Thanks

I have the YN-468 as well (got mine for ~£40 new), but the YN-565 is quite a step up in power from their previous YN-4xx models (YN-468 in particular) so if you are going down the Yongnuo route, definitely go for the YN-565 at least.
I don't know about the SB-600 so can't comment, but the Yongnuo flashes are brilliant for the price. The YN-565 has similar power to the Canon 580EX flash which is ~£300!

I've got a YN-560 which is basically a fully manual version of the 565, though I've got the original so no LCD screen, instead it's got the idiot lights (which I don't mind). In terms of power it's brilliant, a battery indicator beyond the recycle time would have been helpful but I imagine the 565 and 560 II have them on their LCDs
