Hi all,

After my shuffle broke, (snapped by me while charging at bottom of computer  the end of the usb bit broke ie, the ribbon cable snapped), im looking for an mp3 player as life just isnt the same without one!!!

i've done a bit of research myself, and have narrowed down the choices to either a iPod Nano or Sandisk Sansa, fairly similar in size and price.

Will probally get the 4gb version of either one. The sansa can be upgraded via the microsd slot.

Heres some pics:

Now, the EU version of the sansa does not have an fm tuner, but i should be able to source an american verison with the fm tuner and fm recording. Btw, would this invalidate the warranty? If a claim had to be made in the U.K.

So, any personal views on which i should go for, personallly, im kinda leaning towards the Sansa, as it looks more durable, has video capability, bigger screen, looks more sophisticated and less cliched. But i do like the nano's clickwheel.

Thanks,

Digisatman

That Nano pic does it no justice!

I'd go for the Nano, I mean I like iPods a lot, the video thing ain't a big deal at all, with a third party "OS" for the Nano you can get videos running if you really want them also.

not the 2nd gen nano, and probally not for a while , plus, i beleive, even on the 1st gen nano's, the vids arent that smooth?

Daughter has a UK Sansa and it's excellent value for money.
Great sound, very good video. No iTunes stupidity :)
Not lots of add-ons like the Apple tho'

Can you drag and drop files onto the Sansa as a mass storage device in windows or do you have to use Windows Media player 10/11 to organise audio like it seems to imply on the sandisk website?

yup, can be just drag n drop, or u can use wmp.

Sweet! I'll be getting one of these then. :)

The iPod is a nice player but I just don't like to be forced into using software that complicates things further. If Apple ever implement a feature to drag and drop in windows I'll be getting an iPod straight away. :)

I would go for the Sansa, from what I've seen of its reviews it's absolutely super has excellent sound quality, good screen and decent battery life (as does the iPod) but for me; knowing it has drag and drop capability gives it the edge over its competitor (not to mention the price as well!)

There's nothing better than being able to copy everything across without annoying software getting in the way!

sansa has got poor sound quality

seemed to me that the sansa had high and low pass filters that cut-off the bass and high frequencies, when comparing against my logik mp3 player and sony ericsson k750i the sansa's sound quality was kinda compressed/muddy... but your mileage may vary... the headphones you use do make quite a difference too... i.e. when I tried an iPod I thought the sound was quiet and dull until I happened to try my normal headphones on it - and then I found it sounded crisp and alive...

EDIT: Just talking to someone "in the know" and they claim thats due to the very poor headphones that come with the sansa and replacing them with some decent ones make a world of difference... personally I'm sticking with my k750i for music on the move :D
