Howdy all..
Am after a bit of advice / guidance please.. Have finished building new pc and need to get back onto the folding... Was originally on a quadcore with 32bit XP using the standard client, 4 instances running in Fahmon... Have now move to Vista 64 with an i7 and would like to have a go with the SMP client (as never got round to using it on the old setup)..
Is this advisable or should I stick with the standard client and have 8 instances running in Fahmon ?

Cheers for the help..

SMP will give you better results than the standard client.
For maximum points you will be advised to use VMware and linux client.
You can also crunch on your gfx card (two instances of the GPU client)
You can still use Fahmon to monitor all/any instances of FAH

Cheers Biffa appreciate that.. Not going to go down the Linux or VMware route but will get the SMP client set up and running tomorrow.. Not sure about folding on the 4870x2 yet but will look into it..
Cheers again :)

I have a few quad core vms running and get approximately 4.5k ppd on each. The vms were originally Windows based and was getting about half that.

linux == worth it.

Depending on the clock on the i7, you should be good for around 7-8K PPD with it using 2 Linux VMs (two real cores and two HT cores for each VM).

Had a read of setting up Linux and the VMs and needed abit more time than I had this morning.. Have gone with the SMP client through Windows for the time being..

Cheers for the help guys, will get onto folding through Linux soon. :)
