i need to rerecord my music collection, last time i did it i recorded them in mp3 at the highest bit rate i could, however i have noticed that when playing them back on some sound systems they just don't sound as good as the CD, since i am rerecording them i thought i take some advice on what format is best to maintain the best sound quality, space is not an issue,

also what the best software to use to rip the CD

What do you mean re-recorded? If you mean ripping from CD to MP3, what applications are you using? In practice, it shouldn't matter THAT much.. but the most commonly recommended way is to rip using EAC (Exact Audio Copy). You'll need to read a lil around to know how to set it up and use it properly, it is not the fastest ripper (in fact, possibly the slowest in secure mode - which it is all about). EAC rip to wav, but it can be configured to use an encoder. For MP3, the LAME encoder is the most favored one, or, if space really isn't an issue, then Google FLAC: it's a lossless codec. If you do everything properly, there should be no audible difference to the CD.
