Haven't played games since HL2 about 5 years ago !

Just built a new PC and itching to try out some games out.

What good FPS's have I missed in this time that you recommend playing now ?

I played the original COD so COD4 and 5 are already top of my list.

Try out Crysis, Stalker : Shadows of Chernobyl and also Clear Sky. Fear 2 is reasonable, try the first if you already haven't, imo it's excellent. Fallout 3 is also rather good.

Mass Effect - not strictly an FPS but great game

Modern Warefare 1 and 2 are pretty good tho both are rather over-run with hackers in MP atm - tho 1 having the advantage of dedicated servers you can usually find a well admined server where hacking is kept to a minimum

Far Cry 2 - mixed bag but if you can get into it the middle part of the game is kinda good - start and finish are kinda lame tho.

Batman AA - not exactly an fps game but a very enjoyable game

BioShock if you missed it is a blast and the new one looks like it'll be ok

Stalker SoC and then Stalker Clear Skies would be my first choices, then Bioshock. Fallout 3 and Mass Effect are brilliant if you don't mind FPS/RPG hybrids. Actually the Stalker games are a little bit like that as well, but nowhere near as much as those two.

I thought Modern Warfare was pretty average and haven't tried MW2 but a lot of people seems to like them so give them a try.

TF2!!!!!!!

Stalkers games are great

Batman:AA is 3rd person but is a fantastic game, probably my favourite SP game of last year

Older FPS's = FarCry1 (not 2), FEAR + FEAR2
Newer games = Crysis, Ghost Recon, Borderlands, Left4Dead
Alternative to the MW series are Battlefield2, Battlefield2142

I couldn't agree with this post more. The STALKER games are my favourite for sure! Really liked the others you mentioned also, currently enjoying Borderlands too :)

Sp or mp?

Sp mw2 is good but far too expensive for 5 hours game play so wait for it to be cheap

Cod4 is definitely excellent for SP and pretty good in MP as well, get it over 5 tbh.

L4d2 is excellent for MP, bit of a mix between conventional FPs and something new with the specials and there's an excellent ocuk community playing this with link providing servers. Hippos and Kearney are also currently making the l4d1 maps work in l4d2.

You can also play it purely FPs style in coop mode rather than vs

Defiantly my current favourite game.

The STALKER games (sp) are excellent too, my favourite is CS, but many prefer SOC. The lighting engine on these is second to none and with a few texture mods looks amazing and will really put your system to the test in terms of shadows and lighting.

Although the weapons you get at the start are very inaccurate (like any untrained guy will be with crappy soviet era cast offs :p) so it;s not so much run and gun but get close enough that you can stick your sawn off shotgun up their arse ;p

Unconventional and excellent game play.

CS:S is still excellent for MP purely for game play rather than pretty gfx, but difficult to get into with most people being good shots by now.

Crysis warhead is excellent for visuals especially with some config mods. Many people really like the gameplay but for me it felt a bit hollow so maybe best to try a demo if you can find one.

And not an FPs but try Company of heroes and it's expansions for some visual lovleyness.

Hope this helps :)
