I just got a Compro S900 and it is completely useless. It gives me BSOD's it finds all the channels but you can't view the majority of them it just comes up with a blanked out black screen.

So which USB TV Receiver for freesat DVB-S that play's the HD channels aswell do you guy's recommend? It's frustrating having no TV so I just want one that works. I used to use a Compro S350 which worked flawlessly but that's a PCI card and I've downsized my PC and need it to be a USB receiver.

No clue, but will be interested to see what folks suggest for you.
I am currently looking at freesat HD, and possibly will buy a TV with a built in tuner of that type.
There are not many around, but rather than a separate box, it would be nice to have an all-in-one solution.

Right so just to update this thread.

Compro S900 - No good. Find's all the channels by scanning but can only view some.

TechniSat SkyStar USB HD - Useless. Was a pain to install eventually got it installed and didn't find any channels when scanning. Didn't try with their software as I want to use WMC. Just looks a flimbsy bit of kit also. After uninstalling it I can't reinstall it to try again/ Removed from device manager removed software tried to let windows update find the driver for it nothing.

EDIT: Just ordered one of these http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_novahdusb2.html will let you know how I get on.

Will you be using Windows Media Centre or the software that comes with the hardware?

I haven't tried yet but apparently WMC is better than the software you get with it.

I'll use WMC. My intention is to always use WMC I won't buy a USB Box if it's not compatible. I think it looks a lot nicer than the cheap ugly software provided by most manufacturers. I find it so strange that it's soo difficult to get ahold of a USB box that will play freesat and freesat HD! Let's hope 3rd time lucky however the Hauppage is the most expensive.

Compro being about £43, Technisat being around £66 and the Hauppage around £83 I think. Aslong as it works I don't care it's worth paying the premium for the lack of hassle.

I'd be really interested to hear how you get on. I'm just at the point of choosing something that'll work with a Media Center box that will not take a PCI card. I'm sure you'd agree that the choice would so much easier with a PCI card. I want 2 tuners, but whatever I buy I'll need to get 2 of them because there are no dual USB boxes for HD Satellite.

I've trawled through reviews of the Hauppauge Nova S2 USB and the TBS5922 and I've more or less come down on the Hauppauge. It's expensive, but I'm not sure about the TBS.

Hope it goes well.

Right the Hauppage Nova HD USB2 is the only USB freesat receiver that has worked. It's the most expensive by a mile but it's clear you pay for what you get when it comes to USB tuners. I plugged it up installed the driver and works with WMC straight away. Comes with a 2 pin plug so you'll have to buy a 2 to 3 pin up adaptor. Build quality of the box is far superior than the other 2 I tried and smaller too.

Not had a look at the blackgold stuff?

ignore, didn't see the usb bit.

I've had msi/asus/wintv etc and all of them work for a while then they start to overheat after prolonged use... Not tried new models to be honest.

Hi, apologies for dragging this up, but how are you getting on with the Nova-HD USB2? Is it working ok for you now? I'm using it in Windows Media Center myself, but I'm having a lot of problems getting all the channels to show up.

Cheers

Works just fine mate - I think what you need to do is a full transponder scan and it'll find every channel annoyingly some channels it'll find 4-5 times. Just set your favorites and arrange it yourself.

Hi, so I guess just scanning every transponder under the sun will just find every UK channel between them.

I was just following the standard instructions to scan certain transponders, just two or threee I think.

Thanks for getting back, I'll try it.

Cheers
