wanna cancel sky soon. However the Mrs wants to be able to record. Anyone recommend a good one? no budget in mind, but don't want to pay over the odds for some super duper one.

HDR-1000S is the latest with Freetime (iplayer etc when plugged into internet), I've just got one it's really nice... I read a lot of stories about them being buggy but I've not had any problem so far (touch wood!) and they're meant to be releasing a new firmware end of March.

Humax FOXSAT were popular previously and will be a lot cheaper I think.

Try and get hold of talktalk branded youview box. I picked one very cheaply 2nd hand, cant remember if I paid £35 or £40 for it.

However it dosent require you to have talktalk ( got mine hooked up to my virgin router )

Works just like a freeview box, receives BBC, ITV and channel 4 HD channels which you can also record.

Did you change the title or am I just blind? my post yesterday were Freesat boxes not Freeview, I just presumed as you'd had Sky that you'd want Freesat.

It does do HD but you need a rooftop areal as the chap above said :)

Surely you don't need a rooftop aerial as well as a 'dish' to watch HD TV on Freesat, as that rather defeats the object of the exercise, I would have thought?

A lot of the cheaper boxes (both Freeview and Freesat) won't be HD anyway, so that is something else to watch out for.
