Hi folks,

Got a new rig from OCUK and have successfully migrated all my programs across to it ... bar one.

SmartFTP which I bought and paid for will not jump across because they want me to upgrade to the latest version and take out a years support with them or they wont play ball! A program I've been using for 5 years and paid for is now locked out.

So I'm looking to go elsewhere. What would people recommend?

Thanks

Rik

Thanks guys. Will check out FileZilla.

How does it handle backing up massive websites. Eg ones with 500,00 images and thumbnails etc?

Im not asking for support, Im asking to install a program I paid for.

I used the original .EXE file I got back then with the serial number and it wont play ball.

I dont see that as being unreasonable at all; I can run Counter Strike Source which I bought 8 years ago absolutely fine.

By support they'll mean the latest updates and versions I guess, rather than just technical support - once your support is up you won't get any more program updates, so if they add support for a new OS after that time then you'll be stuffed. It's the way most software works - just like my example with Office.

You could just run it in a Virtual Machine, or try setting the program to run in XP mode or something.

But anyway, I imagine the latest version of FileZilla be far better than an old version of SmartFTP.

I know it's a pain though :p.

I see what you mean fella, just annoyed that they are treating the software as a license per year instead of you bought and paid to use it indefinately.

It wont actually authenticate to the server to activate at all which is the major gutter.

That said if FileZilla is the dogs danglies then maybe its a blessing in disguise :)
