Hi,

I'm looking at at the 6400 HZ 2 GB set at the moment, but what is this ZX range like? Somepeople are also saying that the 6400 HZ sets have to be 0606 (June-06) to have the good micron D9 chips on. Can anyone who has ordered any from OCUK confirm whether they got 0506 or 0606. And now to make life confusing OCZ have just pulled their finger out with a whole new range too.

Anyone have any pearls of wisdom for me? :p

I went for...

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 HZ PC2-6400 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) (MY-013-GS)

but some people are going for....

G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS)

Yes, I've gone for the 6400 HZ from a competitor, just hope I get the revision with the Micron D9 chips.

The GSkill PC-6400 ZX is meant to be the best in that price range, uses the same chips as the PC-8000.

Only clocks to 900mhz 4-4-4-12 for me, with 2.2v. It's ok but not fantastic.

So in terms of Conroe the difference between the NR, HZ and XR ranges of the G.Skill PC2-6400 are not really noticable?

I was going to get the HZ, then read that the NR would be just as good on Conroe, but from the pic OCUK provide the NR looks, tbh, like its covered in snot. Not a good colour really.

Well it all depends on how far you wish to overclock. If 400MHz is enough for you, the NR kit is good enough. If you want 500MHz+ for a good price, then the HZ kit is what you want. The ZX is a useless kit IMO because it's more expensive than the HZ. So, it's either the LA, NR or HZ.

And yes, the difference betweem the NR/HZ/ZX running at stock speed is negligible because Conroe's prefetching makes it less reliant on memory timings.

This might help you:

Yeah that should work fine. As for the P5B, it's a mainstream 965 mobo and Asus have a very good reputation on the Intel platform so it should be good.

Sorry not trying to jack this but...
Im on a tight budget now for my conroe and need a cpu/motherboard and ram for about £500 - so if I get the G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS) £117

That would do me great. Would I be able to overclock a little with this? Im not going to overclock hugely but just a little. Cpu will prolly be a EE6600. :)

I would get that mobo assuming your not going to OC that much.

Also, I'd wait a bit for more motherboards to become available before ordering, afterall the first isnt always the best.

Thanks very much for this mate, thats a lot better than what I had in mind. Does this motherboard differ much from the badaxe? I notice it has a P965 chipset and the badaxe has a 975x express chipset, would be interested to know how the 2 differ.

I'll also wait a bit more I will be buying sometime in August, cant wait lol. :)
