Which gaming mouse do you use on Linux?

Like most people here I imagine I dual boot Arch Linux with Windows 7. Windows 7 (soon to be 10 I guess) is used just for gaming and Arch Linux is used for work.

I want a new gaming mouse but I'd like it if it was supported on both Linux and Windows. I used to have a Mad Catz R.A.T 7 and had to do some pretty annoying hacking of X11 config files to get it to work (X11 threw a fit because it didn't know which buttons were to do what).

So I was looking for a gaming mouse that was pretty well supported in Linux through the community. I have a flexible budget so if it means spending more money on it then that is fine as well.

I have a logitech g600 mmo and it works well in ubuntu for me. The extra buttons dont do anything but the mouse functions.

Interesting. I looked at the Logitech G502 Proteus Core because I liked the look of the mouse but wasn't sure if I'd have any problems with it. If the G600 MMO one works that could make it a reasonable option.

I've just done some searching and it looks like Razer and Roccat both have pretty good support in Linux for their devices. Unfortunately the Razer mouse I wanted isn't supported by razercfg which made me sad :(.

I have a Steelseries Kana v2 (dualboot archlinux + win 8.1)

I setup 2 profiles for 400cpi & 800cpi in the windows driver software, clicked save, uninstalled windows software and then use it in linux & windows as profiles are saved to the mouse (the cpi profile button works fine in linux & win without specific apps/drivers)
I think most gaming mice have this feature tho

The only specific things I have set in archlinux is this script on i3wm startup
Code:
xset m 1 1
xinput --set-prop "SteelSeries Kana v2 Gaming Mouse" "Device Accel Velocity Scaling" 1
xinput --set-prop "SteelSeries Kana v2 Gaming Mouse" "Device Accel Profile" -1
Which disables acceleration.

You can also tweak mouse polling rate in modprobe.conf & test using evhz

When I had a Deathadder I think I had to setup xorg.conf for buttons but that was a while ago :) (also relatively simple)

Cool. Thanks for the responses. I'll have a look at them all and see which one suits me best. I'm quite particular and don't want to spend my money on something that is not really what I want. I'd rather stick with my current 10 year old Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse than spend money on something that doesn't work as required.

The Roccat mice do look particularly good though. I might have a closer look at them.

Logitech G700 here on Ubuntu. Happy enough with device support though extra buttons beyond 4th button don't do anything as far as I can tell. From support forums it looks like you need a Windows installation to change the settings that'll be forced on Linux.

Think my favourite gaming mouse was the "basic" Microsoft wheel mouse, been a while since I've used one though.

Same here, I set the onboard profile(s) as required in Windows, and can then switch between them in Ubuntu. It works fine but would have been nice to have a Linux version of the Logitech Gaming Software thing.
