Anyone tell me what gfx would be the best as a more futureproof card

I was looking at the following :-

Ati 4890
Nvidia GTX275
Ati 4870

Cheers guys

future proof is an urban myth m8 , unless your planning on not buying anything else in the future ?
just go with what you can afford at present.

If you can wait then do so, at least until the new Nvidia cards appear and then choose between one of those or the Ati cards.

DX11 is what you are going to be wanting in the next couple of years so if you are ready to spend now then at least wait and see which is the better of the two.

You would be very annoyed if you bought now only to find a better card in a months time for not much more.

In terms of PC gaming, future-proofing is nebulous at best. While DX11 will happen, will today's cards have enough grunt for DX11 games in 12 months time? Or maybe ATI will have refreshed their line-up and performance will have gone up and prices down?

Yes, if I was buying a card today I would buy an ATI 5850, but more from the cost/performance angle rather than it being 'future-proof' with DX11.

Directx11 should be widespread by 6 months to a year so any DX10 card will be fine up to this point.

Then it is just a case of are the features of directx11 worth the extra upgrade cost.

A personal particular reason is all that is needed.
performance angle Is still future proofing as the current 10.1 gen can still play games just fine but you choose the latest for a reason that is not needed atm but will be in the future if not for DX11 but for power & performance.

If you use vista or win7 then get a dx11 card.A 5870 will last a couple of years maybe 3 before it will struggle with the newer games. In another 3 years their most likely will be another new os and dx12 and next gen cards will be twice as fast as 5870s.It never ends.

Yeah, out of the 3 on display I'd have to go with the HD4890

It's DX10.1 so it will see a performance boost in DX11 games over the DX10 counterparts (same boots as current displayed by DX10.1 capable games).
