Morning all,

I've just purchased a Go Pro 5 Hero Black for some general recreation video shooting (hiking, holidays, mud runs etc) and need some quick simple advice on what accessories I should get.

I'm going on holiday in just over a week and therefore need to order a few bits pretty pronto and the options seem a bit overwhelming for price/value.

Items I need:

1. Selfie Stick / Video Stick - Something to be able to walk along holding the Go Pro to video for hiking predominantly and general self video stuff. I like the idea of a folding one so I don't see the stick but value is key.

2. Case - Simple but safe case for holding Go Pro and a few mounts etc. Nothing too big or fancy.

3. Anything else you think is a must?

Thanks in advance!

I too bought a Hero 5 black recently. Liking it much better than the 4 just for it's ease of use.

Head mount is alway a good one so you can have both hands free and get stabilised footage. Though that's how I lost my 4.

I'd also consider a handheld gimbal that can double as a selfie stick. You'll thank yourself for super stable footage.

One thing I'd like is some sort of filter holder or cover to protect the glass element. It almost looks sacrificial with the lens behind it, but I don't think it can be removed.

Types of mounts you need I feel are really dependent on what exactly you are going to be doing and as to whether you need something sports specific.

I personally don't think head mounted is that good, as it quite often feels a bit disembodied. The chest mount is a lot better, but it can be a bit of a pain to wear.

I've actually found that the best mount for walking around is one where you mount it to your shoulder strap of a backpack. I use one by Peak Design, but GoPro have obviously now created their own, which will also hold the gimbal, meaning you get really smooth footage. That's the way I'm going to go when I pick up a Hero 5.

Chest mount is good if you don't move much or do anything active. Terrible for things like kayaking, but works great for motorcycling though or anything where you don't need to move your torso too much.

The peak designs mount is useless for filming (for me anyway). It's more just for carrying. It moves about an enormous amount. The mount is secure, but should shoulder movement, and the type of backpack you have all take their toll on the image.
