Which gpu for 2560x1440

Thanks for the reply.....

i was generally thinking 780 ti but in some reviews it gets a tad noisy.......also would it be advisable to lean on the side of more vram?

970 will do well for 1440p on most games. My 780 which is similar in performance to a 970 is certainly serving me well at 1440p, but have to say I could do with a bit more grunt on Rise Of The Tombraider which I'm currently playing.

If you have a beefy power supply you could look at a 290/290x you should get a fair bit of change from your 150 then also, theyre been selling from 100-120 ish recently on MM.

It will be much noisier and hotter than a 970 though so i would look at one of them as the others are saying.

I just dont understand the point in getting a 1440p monitor and then cheaping out on the GPU.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend anything less than a 980Ti/1070 if you want high quality 1440p/60fps gaming. If you can deal with lower framerates and turning down settings below High in many situations, you'll fare a bit better with something like a GTX970 but it's only going to get worse going forward. Games are going to get more and more demanding.

Also, I'd certainly recommend a 390 over a 970 at >1080p resolutions if you want to go that route.

I agree with Sean. If you go for 2560 x 1440 then get proper support for it.

I used to use a 670 at 1440p and that was actually ok at mid-low settings. Then switched to this 780 which is better but still no way near maxsettings

This. Even the 1070 will struggle in some games at times, and quite badly at that.

The 970 was all right for me at 1440p VRAM-wise but in terms of grunt - not so much. The 390 is a better budget-friendly option due to vastly superior DX12 performance.

I had 2x290x with a 20% overclock and even that wasnt enough for me at 1440p but people have different acceptable lvls of performance. Afterall some people still game on consoles lol....makes me ill even thinking about it.

The 780 ti is a VERY poor purchase today, its performance lagged behind the 970 and its AMD counterparts a LOT. Imo find a used 970/390 or go for a 4gb 480.
