I need a new GPU for my office machine, nothing fancy, although I do use a 4k monitor, whats the cheapest most sensible thing to buy at the moment? I have a separate gaming machine so this really is just documents and internet.

Cheers

Onboard often doesn't even support 1440P let alone 4K. I was surprised to find the 6700K didn't.
Don't know low end GPU's much but I just finished using a 730 GT 4GB that supported two monitors well (1440P and 1200P). Maybe something like a 1020 or 1050TI or AMD RX550? Probably needs > 2GB. Just make sure whatever you buy supports the resolution.

The HD530 used on the Intel 6700K supports upto 4K @ 60Hz. Cable or driver issue maybe?

To the OP, as Hyperseven suggests check your mobo + CPU first, may well be able to do with the onboard.

Otherwise just grab a cheap current gen or previous gen amd/nvidia and it should be more than capable.

Even a 1030 maybe overkill for your needs...

4k monitor will probably need display port 1.2+ for 60hz. Maybe HDmI 2.0 for the newer ones.

So the cheapest card that has the correct outputs for your monitor will be the right one.

Usually it's more to do with the ports on the motherboards that limits the resolution. Just make sure it's at least DP 1.2 or HDMI 2.0 and it will be able to output 4K @ 60Hz.

A lot of the cheaper GPUs will usually lack Displayport, what monitor do you have?

If the monitor has HDMI 2.0: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/evga...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-315-ea.html

If the monitor does not have HDMI 2.0 and only DP1.2+: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/powe...ddr5-pci-express-graphics-card-gx-18r-pc.html

Those are the cheapest I can find that's currently in stock.

Can't remember now, it was a couple of years ago. I used the DVi cable that came with the monitor which worked fine when connected to a GPU. Remember being surprised it didn't work then did some research and realised it wouldn't. Maybe lack of support from mobo for DVI or something. May give it a go later as have a spare DP cable somewhere now.
EDIT: 6700K/Z170-E mobo only supports up to 1920x1200 over DVI-D for some odd reason, but up to 4K over HDMI. However the monitor does not support 1440P over HDMI, hence why I had to get a dedicated GPU.

So, providing OP has onboard graphics capable of 4K and a monitor that can accept it over the cable options available then probably onboard will be fine.

Single link DVI can only do up to 1920x1200. Then on HDMI you are hitting different version numbers and bandwidth limitations.

That'll be 4k30 over hdmi 1.4, most likely. Yo wouldn't want 30hz because it's harder on the eyes, mouse will be laggy.
