Hi guys,

So Im running 2 x GTX780 3GB (Ref) in SLI and I am considering buying the Asus PG279Q. On my 1200p monitor these still seem very potent and I max out near everything, but to make the most of that monitor am I still good? or should I purchase a GTX980Ti? How would the dual GTX780's stack up against one GTX980Ti?

I dont want to spend money for the sake of it, but at the same time with a monitor like that I want the best experience out of it.

Thanks for your input! :D

Id stick now as things are. Recently switched from sli 780 to a 980ti. Bought the latter on release after selling the sli pair. With a few lowered settings 780's will cope fine and keep things within the 3gb vram limit.

Thanks for all your posts guys, yeah I dont think its wise to part with these just yet either. The VRAM thing is the only concern but not enough to part with a massive wad of cash I think!

Personally I don't like multi card setup's, so would change to the 980ti. However if you are happy with them and aren't having any problems, then wait for the next lot of cards.

Stay with what you have, wait for big pascal.
This is what I would do as well if I was in OP's position.

Changing from SLI 780 to 980Ti is like changing from two raptors to a T-Rex, with the fact remain both are 28nm dinosaurs :p

I just got a promotion along with a raise, so I am very tempted to upgrade from my 290x to a 980Ti as well. But I am still very unsure if I really want to invest £500-£600 on another 28nm dinosaur...

Don't agree at all, the 780s still have decent value (150£ each?), add 200£ and you get better performance (minimum frames, no SLI issues) and a card that will hold value for longer.

I think you are looking at this the wrong way.

The pair of 780 worth say £300 now, when Pascal comes out, the value would probably drop to £200 or there about so losing around £100; going from the SLI 780 to a 980Ti now, OP would need to invest extra £200, and the 980Ti value will drop to £200 or less when Pascal...say 1070 released at around £300 and is faster, more efficient and cooler running than the 980Ti, so he loses around ££500 over the same length of time.

So it is a lot of money for a sidegrade for the sake of going single card and slight improve on gaming experience (higher minimum frame rate and better performance in the odd games with poor SLI support/scaling).

The 780s will still have decent value six months from now. Even 680s are still selling for well over £100 on Fleabay. Dropping £200+ for a sidegrade with potentially game-changing cards not far off just seems like a waste.

Yea. Two gen old top card lose less value than one gen old top card, mostly because of the entry level (sub £180) of new gen cards have traditionally been poor bang for bucks, so they don't do much in hurting the resell value of the two gen old top card; 1070 on the other hand will most likely single-handedly make the 980Ti's resell value drop to £200 or less when it is released...which is probably what a pair of 780 would sell for as well.

What if something happens tomorrow though?

:p

The best upgrade in recent years has been 970s (slightly faster and much cooler than his 780s) to 980ti, for that reason I'll always encourage people from ditching SLI for a single 980Ti.
It's just my point of view, it doesn't need to be right or wrong.

Agree with many of the posts above, I recently sold my 2 x GTX 980s and replaced with a single 980Ti Strix.

When SLI worked the performance was superb, but I was sick of SLI issues and support coming very late to some games.

The way I see it is like this:

SLI 10/10 performance in some games, 5/10 in others
Single GPU - 7-8/10 in all games and no hassle.

Sold my sli 980s as well and bought a single 980ti and much better off now as no sli issues with certain titles and better minimum fps. At 1440p a 980ti is its sweet spot for me and im more than happy with my decision.
To buy the best single card you can is IMO still the best option :)

Each to their own, but I can tell you ive been running these two together for some time now and they have given me nothing but superb, reliable performance! :) I know there are some games that have carp support for SLI, but all the games I play support it well, BF4 for example runs like silk on ultra settings.

I am also painfully aware just how quickly ones shiney new graphic card looses its re-sale value once the next big thing comes along. If I were to "sidegrade" to one 980Ti now I dont think it would hold its value as others say when the 1080 series come out.

Yea I would love to upgrade to a 980Ti, but I hate to think about its value when the 1070 is released.

For £500 I can buy a brand new 980Ti right now yes, but when 1070 release, I can probably get TWO 980Ti 2nd hand and with change in the pocket...

Agreed, its a real shocker to see your premium card drop like that. Id love one of the new Pascal cards!
