Hi guys,

With BF3 coming out it's time to get a decent GPU for my rig then and get back into PC gaming....

My rig is :

i7 930 "Nehalem" (Corsair H50 Watercooled) I guess I should o/c this chip as well...
6GB Corsair XMS 3 DDR 3 1600 RAM
Corsair HX520w Modular PSU
Gigabyte GA X58A UD3R
28" Hanspree Monitor 1920 x 1200
Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

Which GPU do you think would be a nice upgrade? I want to play BF3 at Nice gfx settings...

I don't want to spend anything daft like £500. £300ish tops should suffice but the lower the better obviously!

Many thanks for your advice.

Almost forgot - do you think I should upgrade my PSU? I bought a Radeon 5850 (think it was that model) a few months ago and it died after 2 weeks. Maybe the PSU was to blame?

or just do what I did, buy a HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card from ocuk for £209.99 and flash it to a 6970 with the increased shaders and also clock it :D

Would I need aftermarket cooling on that card? Also would I need to upgrade the PSU if I were to O/C? Would I need to upgrade the PSU just for getting an up to date GPU anyway ?

520w PSU should be fine for a single card. It's corsair so its not like its some cheapo nasty one.

Unless you're planning to overclock the nuts off everything, you shouldn't have any trouble. Actually even if you overclock, you wont come close to 520w.

Not all 6950's can be flashed and the ones that can are becoming rarer now that AMD caught on to it. Would flashing to a 6970, one on that cant be unlocked, cause it to brick?

i have the same card/ s in xfire but am **** scared to flash i cant see a dual boot swicth :(

there isnt a dual switch, do you have msn? I can chat to you on it through that, it's simple to do

You need ATI winflash, and RBE ( http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1962/TechPowerUp_Radeon_Bios_Editor_v1.28.html )

Download and use this bios or just edit your existing one ( http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/100666/HIS.HD6950.2048.110330.html )

use RBE and load the bios file first and then go to the additional features tab, you will see the 6950 > 6970 shader tab, enable this, then save the bios.

Use ATI win flash to load the bios, and then save it to the card.

Easy
