Having a bit of bother with one of my cards so looking to upgrade

Is there anything out there for say sub £400 or thereabouts to match my 280Xs at 1080p?

Depending on the game anything from a 780 Ti up would fit the bill (on average your 280Xs are a bit faster than one 780 Ti but in some cases there's a big difference either way).

With £400 to spend consider a 390X (£330+) or GTX 980 (£399+) for a convincing upgrade. Both are seriously powerful for 1080p (maybe overkill).

980Ti would give a slight increase in performance (unless your 280's were overclocked well) and will reign in some power and heat wastage.

For 1080p a lot of people say 980Ti is overkill but in 6 months time, maybe it wont be.

I swapped mine for a 980ti, at stock the ti can beat them by upto 20% but in games with good crossfire scalling they perform around the same.

just get another 280X or 7970 used for around £80-£90. Far cheaper option than wasting £500+. My crossfire setup does fine at 1080P and will last another year or so at least. BTW what is the problem you have with one of the cards?

I went from 280x Xfire to a single 980 a little while ago. It was costly but i just couldn't live with the heat, noise and terrible driver support for Xfire.

Thats the exact reasons i upgraded aswell. It was also nice to have power usage halved.

I went from 7970/7990 trifire to single 980 then 980sli. I found a single 980 outshone the 7990 in performance, the 2nd was mostly added as I didn't want an overall performance regression.

So glad I did it. Xfire is terribly supported, the setup was so loud, my room so hot.

Kind of disapprove of some of nVidias shenanigans but not going to cut off my nose to spite my face and buy into a poorer solution.
