My current 19" CRT monitor (bought used 4-5 years ago) is on its way out.

So, I have just ordered an AOC Q2770PQU 27" monitor (2560x1440). My system is a bit dated. I will eventually get round to upgrading the Motherboard, CPU and onboard memory. In the meantime, as a noob, can someone advise me as to what is the best GPU for the motherboard I've got and the monitor (2560x1440) I've ordered.

I don't really play games. Main use is browsing, office work/documentation (Excel, Powerpoint, etc), photo editing and 2D/3D work.

My system:
Motherboard: A8N SLI Deluxe (S939) x2 PCIe slots on board
O/S: Windows 7 Ultimate N 64-bit
CPU: Opteron 170 2GHz Dual Core
GPU: FX-5200
PSU: 480 Watt Antec (20-pin), no PCIe
Memory: 3x1GB (maybe able to goto 4GB)

I know the system is a bit dated and is in need of upgrading, but it will need to be done over a period of time. In the meantime if someone can advise me of a good GPU I'd be very grateful.

If it means I also need to upgrade the PSU, then I may also entertain that possibility as well, as it will go towards upgrading the system overall.

Ideally I'd prefer the cost of the GPU to be less than £100 but I may double it if it can be justified in terms of "more bang for your bucks" and future proofing, etc.

Thanks.

Well I ordered the AOC Q2770PQU 27" monitor and its working fine, although at a resolution of 1920x1080, with my current GPU (nVidia GeForce FX 5200).

Running a LCD at a non native RES is not ideal or sharp.

You are going to struggle to get good FPS in many games on that new screen with your hardware even with a new GPU.

The Mobo is PCI-E 1.0 not even 2.0 (current is 3.0) so will cripple new GPU's and the CPU also is a major bottleneck.
