which gpu

Ok, my mates son is going to uni in sept to study graphic design ect. I built him a pc last year which has an 8 core cpu andan rx480 4gb. He says when he does 4k stuff it can lag a but so wants to upgrade his gpu. He doesn't have a big budget so which gpu would you guys recommend he gets?
i've been out of the upgrade loop for a while now so not sure how things have moved on

This would probably be the best for a lowish budget. Decent compute power and 8gb hbm memory should lead to a good improvement at 4k.

At 4k should be around 80% faster in games and where the 4gb is memory limited then more. If he is doing Graphics work then Vega will be night and day ahead i would imagine.

Depending on what he is doing a Radeon 7 with 16GB ram might be a good card

What is the 8 core processor? FX 8000 series if it’s not recent or ryzen I’d imagine if you have amd, the FX would play a part and could hold him back.
