Which graphics card? £200ish.

Is the Asus (linked above) best one to go for?

If not please can someone recommend one? Not interested in package content i.e games etc.

There's a graph in this thread showing which cards have been unlocked successfully.

Yes, it's the cheapest at the moment and the most obvious choice. Also has a better quality cooler.

Unlock and overclock, 6970 performance for 560 money.

Not wishing to **** on anybody's bonfire but by all means go for the 6950 (I know I would out of the 2 cards recommended so far) and unlock it but don't be so fast to clock it to 6970 speeds especially on the ram. There are a lot of posts cropping up on the interweb now from owners that initially flashed to a 6970 bios and are having problems. Do your homework before buying and don't buy with the expectation that you will get FULL 6970 speeds - at worst you will have a 6950, at best a 6970 but aim for somewhere in the middle and you shouldn't be disappointed.

I originally flashed my card to a 6970 but although the card was running perfectly fine with no problems, I decided to reflash it to unlocked shaders. With unlocked shaders only, using the instructions below you can reflash to the Asus bios that enables easy overvolting and much higher ccc oc limits. The card also runs at its stock 1.1v over the 6970's 1.175v. I currently use the stock 6970 settings at 1.1v.

Overclocking monster too (maybe I'm just lucky), this was just done to see what my card can do:

Amd 6950 2Gig With Shaders Unlocked
25% overclock: 1ghz Core(Stock 800Mhz)
Memory 1.3Ghz(Stock 1.25Ghz)
1.265V (Stock 1.1V)
Kombuster Run MAX temps 50c
Cooled By Modded Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 5870 VGA Cooler

5 min video (pretty boring but you can skip to the end to see that it's stable)

If you do decide to flash your card, shaypers link and instructions are very clear and easy and only takes about 2 minutes.

Bing ;)

A whole unlock thingy with the ASUS bios, gives you extra voltage for free, a tiny OC and unlocked shaders. Perfect?

And it's no worries, happy to help :)

So ideally what bios should I use to flash the Asus 6950 2gb card if the above bios us only for the 1gb card??

thats 1gb

Got my asus 6959 today and have just now flashed it to 6970, should Asus SmartDoctor still id the card as 6950 or 6970 in the top left corner of the program window??

Depends how you unlocked it, if it's shaypers method then yes, it will still be id as a 6950. If you compare your gpu-z with mine above you should have the same amount of shaders as a 6970(1536).

Yeah i have the same amount of shaders. What other ways is there to unlock other than shaypers then?

I also notice in overdrive window in the CC CP, that all the options are greyed out, also only allows a clock speed of 840mhz max??...
