Pre-order atm.

Or a GTX 480 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-079-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1750

Or if you want you can get a ATI HD6950 & flash it to a 6970, but I'm unsure which work best for that.

The 480 is better than the 570 but takes more power. The 570 is also quieter.
I would get a 480 SOC, then a 6950 then a GTX570

Hi there, Welcome :)

For £250 the fastest card you can get is this one. It's very quick (almost as fast as a GTX 580) and due to the custom cooler - reasonably quiet (for a card of its power level). Here is a review.

That said, it is a very power hungry card and also kicks out a fair amount of heat - so make sure you have a good quality PSU rated to at least 600W and decent cooling in your case.

This is also a nice option. Its not quite as fast as the overclocked GTX 480 above, but it is still very quick and it is also less power hungry.

As for the AMD side - this is a good deal for a fast card. This review compares the 6970 to many other cards (including the GTX 570) in a range of games.

Get the GTX 480 SOC. It performs on par with the GTX 580, yet is 2/3rds of the price

wow!!!!you guys dont hang around, thanks for the lightning response.not sure of make of psu, ocz i think from overclocker and its 750 watts at least(i was thinking ahead at the time)and screenn is a dell 22 inch but dont know max res.im away from my rig at the moment(as in diff couintry)and cant check.would the msi 6970 be a faster card than the msi gtx480 or vice versa, might even spend a little more if a huge gain was possible on something else.thanks again for advice so far, keep it comin!

i had the gtx 480 SOC, just to test it out to see what it could do and i was very impressed with it, i have antec 650w psu and it
cope with that card fine! with the rest of my spec in my sig but i did fine it was a littlw too hot for my liking, idle 50'c at load 85'c.

I also got a 6950 flashed to a 6970 and yet again i was very impressed with that as well but i found the temps was a lot more cooler,
idle 35'c at load 70'c and it was a lot less power hungry to the 480 SOC. so i decided to sell my 480 SOC

i found both cards to be on par with each, on 3dmark 11 i scored 7200 with the 480SOC and the 6950/70 i scored 7120, not reall
a lot in it but the 6950/70 won cuz of the temps and a lot less power hungry.

The GTX570 and 6970 are from MSI. The GTX480 SOC is made by Gigabyte.
having owned both the 6970 and the 480 SOC, I can say the 480 SOC is better in every way.

The 480 was slightly quieter which was a mjor deciding factor for me
