Hi,
I have a second pc with the following specs;
AMD A10 7850K (APU R7)
Kingston 8GB 1600mhz
GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI
Corsair Builder Series CXM500 500w

I originally only used this as a htpc, but have started to use it for gaming, when friends come over.

As much as the graphics at the moment are fairly adequate, I wanted to know how much it would cost to get as much out of the system as possible.

So, does anyone know what the best card I could buy for this system that wouldnt be bottlenecked by the already installed parts?
Ideally AMD, I read that the crossfire is not that good with APU so I dont mind ignoring the APU and having a solo card if it is better.

Few questions before i make a possible recommendation on a suitable GPU for Dual Graphics/Single GPU.

What resolution will you be using?
What games will you be playing?
Will you be overclocking the A10-7850K?

Hi Matt,

What resolution will you be using?
Mainly 1920 x 1080 for games... although the monitor is actually 2560 x 1440 Dell U2711... so if I can reach that resolution at a good fps I may give that a go.
But I am more than happy on this PC using 1920 x 1080.

What games will you be playing?
LoL, CS GO... maybe some one player games like Far Cry 4 etc...

Will you be overclocking the A10-7850K?
I hadn't even thought of doing this, but if that then affects what GPU I can buy, I may give it a go... I have some experience overclocking my intel i7 so its not out of the question.

Thanks in advance for your help.

In terms of Dual Graphics for Kaveri the fastest chip would be the R7 250/R7 240. I would recommend overclocking the APU if you feel comfortable to get the best possible performance of Dual Graphics.

Once you reach the R7 370 performanceprice level, Dual Graphics is not worth it and you should look for a single GPU, but it all depends on how much you want to spend. Dual Graphics can be a cheap way of getting extra performance for little outlay.

you sure a 260/260x Bonaire will cf with the Apu, Pretty sure it was just r7 240/250.

Do NOT get a card for dual graphics. The only thing it worked well with was benchmarks. Honestly, been there, done that with the 7850k.

If your monitor is 2560, get a 390, and disable the apu graphics. The higher the res, the less work the CPU has to do, and that card at that res would be great.

If you are on more of a budget consider a 380 (or even an Nvidia 960).
If you can overclock the cpu that would also assist, especially if you game at 1920.

Are you sure? I haven't seen thar in any reviews or in the slides that came out.

That'd be pretty good tho, would love to see some benchmarks.

And what about dual 260x with a 7870k?

I'm sure it was compatible, but after more investigation we do recommend R7 250 on amd.com for Godaveri too. So better go with that recommendation. I will update my post if i find out different.

Wouldn't you lose freesync when pairing the 7870k with a gcn 1.0 card like the 250?

The 260x would be much more viable for 1080p with the 2gb of gddr5.
