Hi all I hope you can help.

I am going to build a media centre pc and I was wanting to be able to play every single video format out there including 1080p mkv files and blu-ray.

The other thing is I want it to be silent as possable so I was looking a passive GFX to buy to play every single video format with ease.

I don't want a chip that can just manage it but the best you can get that will run it without a sweat.

I want to be able to get dobly digital HD and Master DTS Hd to from teh hdmi as this is the only way you can get these sounds to my amp which can decode the hi-def sounds.

is it better to get a sound card that does this ?

is there any problems with blu-ray and hi df playback with the ati or nvidia card at all which is best to use and i am looking for a card with the video accelerator.

can media pcs produce top rate pictures l;ike a high end denon 2500 blu-ray player ?

also what motherboard should I be looking at ?

Thanks for any help

that link does not work, and i am building a new media pc so my old gfx card does not matter as its to old.

wanted to know if the passive top range cards are ok for media centre pcs

I would have recommended that as well. There's also a passive 4650 by HIS that's good too. Also, there are rumours of a passive 4770 on the go.

yep was wanting to know about the passive 4770 as this should run cooler than the 4670 cards does ati produce a good qualtiy picture and can it output 24p ?

how do these compaire to nvidias

why not just get a good mobo with built in grapics? should be more than able to run hd content ... i still havnt got my inards yet sicen i bought my antec micro fusion from this site ( it better work when i do lol )

have ati fixed the 24p problems with there cards ?

there sgot to be diffrences between the manufactures, never been to keen onbuilt gfx cards

i have read this ATI has a fix for Black levels, while NVidia does not, so do nvidias have problems ?

would a seprate gfx card be better for a media centre pc over onboard its just thta i want to be able to get sound from the hdmi and i dont tink any onboard nvidia motherboard lets you do that

plus i might need 2 pci express becasue of the new sound cards that use pci express for true hd audios in the future

any 4 series ati card and i mean ANY. the 4350 will handle everythign out there that can use hardware accelleration. anythign that doesnt will need a half decent cpu, but thats another matter. for HD audio, there isnt a graphics card out there that will support trueHD and DTS:MA output, for that you will need the only soundcard currently available - the xonar HDAV1.3

...however, before you spend money on a sound card, make sure you you have a very good av amp and speakers to pair it up with.

as for other questions, yes they do support 24fps output and no they dont have black level issues :)

my system is top of the range high end

kef iq90 fronts
kef iq30 rears
kef iq60c centre
sub BK monolith DF
Amp Yahama 3900
Blu-ray Denon2500 bt wanting to replace this for high end media pc but the sound card and picture needs to be just as good or better than the denon or what is the point, this will be a hard task as the denon is rated one of the best blu-rays out there for picture and sound quality becasue of its high build quality. blows the ps3 out the water in picture and sounf by the way./
media centre ps3 which i wnat to replace also
Tv pioneer 5090

i know by what you said and read that to only get true hd audio is to get the xonar HDAV1.3 or the Auzentech Reveals HDMI 1.3 (which is not out yet) but that will be in the future.

i want to know is will the ati`s send only digital/DTS using hdmi or would i need to hook it up from the optical on the motherboards sound card and set it to s/pdif tp 5.1 digital out, ifso why do ati send out 7.1 sound using hdmi when you can not use it it seems there is no benifit from ati sound output to nvidia not sending it out at all ?

Q1 can you do his hook the hdmi to the tv for picture and sound stereo then hook up the optical to the amp for dolby digital/DTS and then in the future if i want hd sounds i get the HDAV1.3 or the Auzentech Reveals sound card and then hook the gfx card to the sound card then the sound card to teh amp to bitstream.

Q2 also becuas eof this can i use the 2nd hdmi output to the tv and use it for picture and sound so if i dont want to use the amp i can use the 2nd ouput hdmi to watvh tv and the first output for hd sounds when using the new sound card with hd audio ?

thanks

i cant see how a media centre is going to produce a better picture than that if the denon player . the transport of the player itself will wipe the floor of a pc version. i'm looking get in cheap .. if a wanted high end i'd go seperates .. been ther and done it with dvd .. just back to basic 2 channel setup for now
