Which Graphics Card + LCD?

Hi guys, I currently run a 19" CRT at various resolutions for gaming, but due to me moving to university I'll need something a lot tidier.

I basically only play cod4 online, highish settings but need constant 250 FPS (or 125 FPS).

I really want a 24" gaming screen (most likely the OCUK one) but I'm sure that my current 8800GT won't really cut it.

Which combination of LCD / Graphics card(s) can you guys recommend for this purpose?

Budget is irrelevant but I'm not looking to waste money, my mobo is x38 so would consider crossfire, but don't really want to face any compatibility issues.

Thanks

Why exactly do you need such a high FPS? I mean after about 30FPS it makes no real difference and I doubt most games can get to 250FPS.

It makes a difference with getting to places in COD4.

i didn't read that actually... the 4870 might not get that fps, I don't really know.

In cod4 it makes a difference, it's a bit hard to explain but 125 and 250 fps are the sweet spots (only really matters if you play competitively).
I run at 250fps constantly at the moment with an 8800GT on 1280*768 but it can't quite cut it at higher resolutions.

So how do you explain the difference between 60fps and 250fps ??????
Where is it ? because definitely its not something you can see, the game wouldnt run any smoother. And I dont think you can run faster because of the fps lol.....

Especially LCD screens wont even show half of that so whats the case, or maybe im missing something, please enlighten me :).

And depending on your budget I would grab Either 4850x2 or 4870x2 if you're fps lover.

And seeing as you gamed at oldy 19 CRT, 20" widescreen will be more than enough, however, personally I would get 24" myself.

In short, at 125 FPS in CoD4 you can jump a bit higher, needed for some nades + certain jumps.

At 250 FPS sometimes you can sprint silently + also jump higher.

These both give a definite advantage. + I can see a big difference in smoothness even above 60FPS on a CRT, it probably isn't the same on a LCD due to the lower "refresh rate" though.

Hope you're enlightened, and I thought 20" would be plenty but I'd rather go the whole hog.

Aye, what the eye sees and what you feel when playing are two different things. If you can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS when playing competitively in an FPS then you must be a plant :p

I've said 60+, not 30 ;).

And lol at jumping higher, thats kinda stupid, imagine you could drive faster in lets say NFS because of higher fps, sounds silly to me ;).

I'm not here to argue about my reasons which I know are justifiable, I'm just looking for some advice :)

Would the OCUK 24" VA LCD and a ATI 4870 512mb be a good combination for fast-paced cod4 gaming or would I need a graphics card with a little more juice / a smaller screen?

Thanks
