Been away from the fast moving world of components for a while and need some advice on a fair-to-good PCI-Express graphics card (no silly money!)

Putting together a new M-ATX system (no Sli/crossfire capabilities) but PSU and case won't limit my choice; my old system runs a 9600 XT 256, so something better!

Any brand, any colour - reasonably quite to silent desirable.

Cheers for any advice. :D

If you want silence, maybe try a 7600GS as it has no fan. Performance is ok, kinda like a 256MB 6600GT, so still a massive boost from what you're used to. Or of you want a spend a little more, go for a 7600GT.

If you step up a level to 7900GT/X1800XT you're talking a more expense, noise and heat.

Dont bother with extreme editions, your paying extra just for a little overclock, that you can do yourself anyway.

lol that's true .. but it is the safe way of overclocking. and it doesn't void your warranty if something goes wrong :P

i'd never buy one either, but for the safety conscious its a nice safety net ;)

An alternative to the 7600gt would be the ati x1800gto which i've heard has a relatively quiet stock cooler plus it runs oblivion better which is important (to me :p )
