Hi,
I just wondered if you thought it was worth me upgrading my graphics card? I've currently got an XFX GTX260 Black Edition, one of the ones which is known to cause grey screen of death under heavy load if the fan speed isnt increased or the clock speed isnt lowered.
I've got around £200-250 to spend, and just wondered as to your recommendations, and if you think it's worth getting one? And if it is, which one you would buy and why!
Thanks,
matt

5850:- £200/£250 (depending on how hard you care to look). Has DX11 support, gets good benchmarks, low power consumption, and a single card (therefore upgradeable in the future).

5770 x 2:- £240 for a pair of Asus (personal brand preference). Has DX11 support, gets better benchmarks in crossfire than the 5850, low power consumption (although not quite as low as a single 5850), easy to get hold of.

Just a quick question Auraomega, where would you go to find a 5850 for ~£220?

I'd say it's well worth the upgrade Addicted. These new ATi cards appear to be pretty special.

and do you think it'd be worth the upgrade Auraomega?
or do you think it's worth waiting a little bit?

It depends on what you play really, if your card is holding its own for now, stick with it until prices come down or until you find a real bargin. If on the other hand your card is struggling then go for it. Or you could buy a single 5770 and another when prices drop, however I'm pretty certain a single 5770 beats and is beaten by the 260 in the same amount of games, so an "upgrade" to a 5770 would be a bit pointless in my opinion.

Can't post other companies on here.

time for upgrade! :)

P.S. how can i contact you to get info on where to get it? i'll message you on last.fm :)

haha that's that sorted, anyway i got a few more questions:

I saw on another site there is the Asus 5850, which has a 3year warranty and GRiD2, is this the best one to go for or do you recommend any other makes? Im a bit disappointed with XFX now this card plays up.

p.s. i see what you mean about the shipment, just missed it :(

From what I've read XFX has a poor warranty service (read a thread earlier that their 3 year warranty means you pay money on the 3rd year, hardly a warranty).

Asus are my personal preference because of their over volt abilities without the need for any ugly hacks, they also cover sensible overclocks in their warranty I believe, which is always a bonus.

ok awesome i'll have to have a look to try and get the Asus one then, by the way, if you know of any definite places to get the Asus one, don't hesitate to let me know :p
