Hi guys,

I was wondering, I'm thinking about updating the rig in sig slightly, it's a gaming rig so I guess my best upgrade potential would be in changing the graphics card as the 8800gt is an ageing beast :).

I'll have around £150 to spend, I've always been an nvidia fan but if there is better from ATI then I guess I can be swung.

Cheers ;)

4890 easily. You could get the Vapor-X 4890 for £149. If i was you though i'd save up £50 more and get a 5850 which considerably outperforms every card apart from the 5870 and the two dual GPU cards (4870X2 and GTX 295) It's an extremely good value for money.

Alright mate, cheers for the input. I guess I'll have to wait a month for next months wages to come through if I go with the 5850 ;)

Cheers

I'd be pretty gutted though if I fried it and they either found out I intentionally broke it and decided to give me nothing :)

I hope you're joking.

they can't find out if its fried lol.

but on a serious note i would save up 50 more and get the 5850 like others have suggested or if your going to wait the month, might as well stick it out until dec/jan where new cards + lower prices will probably occur

Heh, I've just looked under my bed for the box, I can't find it and I never set up the lifetime warranty when I first bought it. Bad times indeed

But you said 295... :p

i'm not very familiar with nvidia cards.

Ha, If I managed to blag a GTX285OC2 I think I'd be a very happy / lucky guy! :)

well considering its life time warranty, i don't think they are going to use the guarantee paper as an excuse. fry it and give them a call, you have absolutely nothing to lose, if your going to upgrade anyway.

I was going to sell my old 8800GT to a family member so I've got £40 to lose, but so much to gain!

Choices!

Well according to this months issue of custum pc magazine the 5850 is equal to a 275.

I would have thought the 5850 would have out preformed the 275, I found link to some benchmarks, if they are legit then it's raping the 285.

Well the 5850 is on par with the 285 at a slightly lower price but also has other features as well but it really depends on which one you are more fond of really.

I wish i got a 5850 before the prices got jacked up, if you wait around for the 300 series then ATi may have to reduce there prices to remain competitive.
