Which graphics card?

Looking to upgrade from an 8800gts 320mb to a new ATI card but I can't decide which to get.

The new 5770s look quite nice at ~£125 but I believe they arent as fast as the 4890 cards which can be had for an extra £25-30. The 5770s have Dx11 but tbh, since getting my 8800gts over 3 years ago I think I have played a couple of demos of games with Dx10 and not much else so I'm not to bothered by Dx11 just yet.

The rest of my system is Phenom II BE @ 3.1ghz (dual core) and 4gb ram, I game at 1680x1050.

It seems quite confusing atm which card to go for!

4890 would be a better choice than the 5770 if you are not bothered about DX11.

A 5850 would be even better if you can stretch that far.

You may not be bothered about DX11 right now while there aren't any games that actually use it but if you plan on keeping our card as long as you've had your last one you may regret it in the long run.

The only reason we still have a huge amount of titles coming out In DX9 is because both the xbox 360 & ps3 only have support upto that standard & a lot games nowadays are console ports. When the new generation consoles arrive (2012 reports say) they will be using a newer DX version & our old school graphics cards won't be able to play the ports from them.

it'll probably be DX12 & we'll all need to upgrade though lol :-/

Thanks, I think I'll go for the 4890 as I'm really not that convinced Dx11 is going to make a major impact in the next 2 years (from my Dx10 experience) and I can handle having to buy another card in two years time.

And anyway, a first gen dx11 card isnt going to be that great for max settings when dx11 games start hitting in a year or two.....?

The 5770 is a low-end DX11 card and will probably struggle at decent settings.
