i'm curious. we all say the manufacturer/card we want to buy. but i'm interested in your thoughts on the exact opposite. which card/manufacturer do you avoid?

So Forget everything about
: Price
: Core/clock Memory Clock Speed

This is solely about Manufacturer/Warranty/Cooler
Their are closed boxes in front of you with Every manufacturer which manufacturer/card do you not want to get & why?

Examples:
Nvidia:
KFA2 - Clown card need i say more?

AMD:
XFX - Very bad past experience of them not honoring their warranty, OCUK did & removed them from Their Shop (many years ago, 10+ maybe?)

XFX seem to have upped their game a bit lately though I'd still be wary - back in the day they would always cheap out somewhere often with the result that sooner or later something would go pop. Not had personal issues as I've not bought them (aside from one DOA 5900XT) but more than once I've seen the aftermath of friends hardware where XFX GPUs or PSUs have "let out the magic smoke".

Asus I've had too many bad experiences with poor quality control and dire service (i.e. they think it perfectly acceptable to replace a few days old brand new premium item if it fails with a grotty refurb) so won't touch them with a bargepole. For instance I've GPUs from them with completely the wrong core mounted on the PCB! not to mention the fiasco with their motherboards (which lead to me taking a hammer to a £300 motherboard) and failures with the pg278q.

HIS. Have an R9 Nano from them. Went to register it, half the page to register was in chinese then found out from the drop down menu of cards they did not even list the Nano.

I tend to avoid ASUS due to pricing. EVGA seem a little amateur by not producing AMD options and the the issues with coolers over the past few years.

Back in the day when you made money out of building systems I would pick Gigabyte hardware in general which has always been reliable. Still using them today. (just incase the Gigabyte rep is looking to hand out some 1080Tis)

^ Gigabyte wise first RMA was good, second was terrible sent me the same card back, But 3rd time they did fix it by giving me full money back so overall pretty decent!

I've not had an awful lot of GPUs, but at the same time I have never had a bad one. I've had XFX, MSI, ASUS and EVGA for gaming cards, never had a single failure or anything to speak of. Even with cheap mediocre cards never had problems!

Not so sure about that, The Xtreme series of cards are crap, Bent fins, Made of cheap flimsy plastic, Fans that can't spin because of said plastic(QC), Can't even hold it's default clock speeds. Even my old 780 Windforce OC has bent fins, A friend has nothing but problems with his Giga$$$$ motherboard.

very interesting to see people Call out Asus many times in this thread. Thought everyone was ROG fans :p

would agree though, ASUS seems to be pay more for our Marketing team added on RGB + ROG logo. we hip now down with the kids :D

ASUS are still my go to for motherboards, but their graphics cards are overpriced and overhyped. MaxContact 10x flatter heat sink - who comes up with this marketing number nonsense?

EVGA. Not after the 1080 FTW thermal pad fiasco. Feels like cheap construction too. Poor manufacturing/corners cut. I don't have an issue with their other stuff I even have an 850 P2 Platinum PSU which i'm pleased with but cards, nah.

Asus have made some nice cards in the past though think of all the MARS and ARES cards

but I do try to avoid their cards, IDK why maybe because I don't feel like sending it back to Taiwan when something goes wrong, not that ive had any issues with Asus in the past actually I used to be a Asus fanboy

if im buying new, I try to avoid - Palit (yes I own one ) PNY - inno3d - KFA

just because theyre like £10 cheaper than the likes of MSI EVGA etc when it comes to reference designs

I've had two manufacturer RMA experiences so far, with Sapphire and HIS. Both times I sent the card to OCUK and they had it shipped off within a couple of days. Both manufacturers took a little over 4 weeks to get back to me. Now I'd only go for cards that have UK RMA centres or have arrangements with retailers like OCUK.

The Xtreme cards had some bent fins during the first batch due to packaging, a silly mistake but, to say they are crap is just nonsense.

You should send your friend to these forums as motherboard issues tend to be incorrect driver installation and/or registry damage with products such as ccleaner. It's amazing how many people never install motherboard drivers provided by the manufacturer.
