sorry guys... but I need some advice...

u see i work most of the day and I dont really have the time to start looking in hardware reviews to get all the info

I need to build a system for my brother in law.. and the only thing missing is a gfx.

Since i am going for a midrange price... I thought that nvidia GT would be my best choice... but which one..?

8800GT 512MB or 9600GT 512(which is cheaper by the way)

He is using a 19" wide tft and he wants some descent gaming performance

could you pls help me out..? tnx

Well since I have the 8800 GT I would strongly reccomend going for that, its a better card all around and gives better performace than a 9600 GT on all resolutions. I would advise him to go for either the XFX or the EVGA model 8800 GT aswell. ;)

Get the OCUK 8800GT it performs better than the 9600 and brand really doesn't matter they all come from the same place, just have different packaging.

id get the BFG on offer atm - a 5 year warranty is not to be sniffed at for the sake a for a tenner or so. adds resale value too dont forget.

people who say warranties dont matter have obviously never had a card go wrong - and they do go wrong :)

Just get the cheapest 8800GT you can find, bang for the buck you wont go wrong.

If price is too much of an issue then the 9600GT is great bftb also but 8800GT is the sweet spot.

yeah that is what I thought as well. that the 8800GTis the sweet spot.

I was considering the 9600 as a new product, futureproof and basically because ituses less watts under load... so in case of a future sli it would be easier on the psu(520w)
