which gtx 480

Im building a gaming pc for a friend, who has his heart set on a 480 he is not sure which one , so does he get the evga 480 for £185 or Point of View GeForce GTX 480 TGT Ultra Charged for £208 is the pov worth the extra ? tried to talk him into waiting for kelper or getting a 7870/7950 but wants it built asap and doesnot want to spend more than 220 pounds

Go to POV's website and jot down the settings.

Buy the EVGA with a Gelid.

Open Afterburner. Overclock the card to the same speed as the POV.

I would wait until Kelpar comes out next month (or if it ever does xD) and prices will drop.
A GTX570 can be bought for £220 on OcUK now! £220 for a GTX570 IS A GREAT PRICE! And its the newer, cooler, faster and more energy efficient (plus better for overclocking) than the GTX480 which is plagued with overheating problems and using quite a lot of power.

Get a 570!

Every 480 should easily attain the POVs clocks, and most will overclock considerably higher.

was so close to clicking buy button but i keep getting this vram limit in my head

dont know if i should get this plus after market cooler and keep for a year then change but i also think what will happen with the 580 prices when kelper comes i also like the look of the 7870 arrggg my head hurts lol

1.5 gb is plenty for 1080p

When 1.5gb VRAM is te only thing that restricts gameplay, then the GPU will be so pathetic you'd need to upgrade anyways

Got me one of these EVGA 480's coming to replace 2 460s in SLi.

I know the 460's are faster but in some games where SLi is not effective i.e FSX single card raw power is really needed, also the 768mb on the 460s is really limiting me having nice textures and AA to the max!

Looking forward to some fun later on....

I'd get a GTX570 for £215, similar performance and what not, but for the price, the GTX480 offers pretty good value for money.

480 is same speed as 570 @ stock.

480 runs hotter (and noisier) on stock cooling.
480 has a useful bit more memory
480 is fair bit cheaper.

IMO 480 @ <£180 is a steal! :eek:

Get a 570!

Prices won't drop on Kepler release, the new prices have been set by NVIDIA for two reasons. First of all clear through channel stocks and second it means GTX 580 is now well over £100 less than GTX 680 shall be.

I'd agree with getting a 480, I'm just picky when it comes to noise. But if I had a card like that, I'd either watercool it or put a gelid icy cooler on it, I used to have one and with the fans on max it was very quiet!

Well I have 300 to play with at the end of the month so would you still say 480 with cooler for around 220 pounds or something like the 2560mb 570 for 50-60 pounds more ?

480 has better value too performance, so if the noise you can live with the 480 is better card.

This man , he tells you the truth ! It will be cooler and quiet ( the main gripes people have with these are heat and noise ) , not only that but for the money it will be stinking fast !
