Which GTX 970?

I've been back an forth on whether to go R9 290/X, GTX 970 or even a 2nd hand GTX 980 and while I think I've decided to go down the Nvidia route, I'm not sure which one to go for!?!?!

I am drawn towards the lower PSU requirements, temperature and noise levels of the Nvida cards but can't decide which 970 would be the best to go for with a circa £290 budget! (even a 2nd hand 980 is another £100 or so and I'm not sure it's worth it, even with the 3.5GB VRAM issues on the 970)

Is there much to choose between the cheapest half a dozen or so 970's?

I you game ion 1080 then go for a 970.

I had 1 gigabyte g1 and it was awesome for 1080 i only got the second one when i got a 1440 monitor and that was when the 3.5gb was becoming an issue. I played safe and returned the 970's in the end and got a 980.

I went with the MSI Gaming 4G version and I'm very happy with it.

My reasons for going with that one particularly:

Very quiet - the fans don't even spin at idle (intentional, not a fault!)
Not particularly large - although I have plenty of length in my Cosmos S case, I might add another for SLI later, and I like that there will be a gap between the coolers.

(Oh, and apologies to everyone who gave me 290 advice! I really did appreciate it, but in the end I wanted a very quiet card and the GTX 970 with the Twin Frozr V cooler fitted the bill perfectly. That said, a friend of mine who bought the MSI 290X with the Twin Frozr IV says that's very quiet too...)

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, if you use over 3.5Gb, particularly with SLI, you might suffer stuttering. The higher the resolution the more VRAM is used, so the easier it is to hit the limit.

Or for a little extra get GTA V and an OcUK mouse mat bundle version:

My favourite is OcUK reference version, simply as it has 980 PCB and genuine NVIDIA cooler.

Looks very interesting, albeit at the top of my budget! - although I've got GTA V on the PS4, any reason I couldn't sell the games via the members market to help with the cost? (I thought I'd read somewhere about some games stating "NOT FOR RESALE" or similar!?!?)

Also, does anyone know whether my PSU (in sig.) is "80+ Gold Rated" - or know how to find out? (for the purposes of the coil whine guarantee) I can see mention of it being 80+ rated but no mention of whether it's "Gold" or not!?!?

+1 if you are just going to get one 970 they are amazing at 1080p, the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 970 I had was very cool and quiet.

I'll be gaming at 1440p so hopefully one of these will suffice! *crosses fingers*

Hmmm, is the Gigabyte one worth the extra £30 over the KFA2 one mentioned above?

The specs appear identical, with the exception of an extra year's warranty on the G1!?!?

No I don't think it's £30 better than the Infinity black. I think so many AIB's done a great job with the 970s and the Infinty black Gibbo mentioned looks the business and a great deal to boot.

Ask in customer service to see if they'll honor the previous deal. Should've jumped at it when you had the chance.

I know - you snooze, you lose! :D

I can still get the bundle including GTA V and the mouse mat for a tenner more so it's not the end of the world - just thought I'd see if any comparable 970's were going to pop onto the weekly deals first! :(

Link to the thread and see what they say. You won't know unless you ask.
