Which Guitar Heroes can I use with a pad?

I prefer and have more fun using the pad for Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock? I think it was called that.

i read on some of the recent guitar hero boxes that a guitar is NEEDED?

What titles can use the pad if any?

I know there are about 86 different GH versions out there.

Pretty sure anything after 3 you need a guitar. Definitely need a guitar for World Tour and 5, and probably all variations of those too such as Metallica. Although you really do need to to play it with the guitar, it's so much more fun seriously. Playing it with a pad just makes it the same as any other game where you press buttons to music.
