Right now that I got home cinema sound sorted, I need a decent TV to go with it - but there's so many choices out there , not sure what to get.

Looking at something between 40-43" , HDMI , Component, Scart inputs , don't need speakers and won't need a stand (will fix to wall) looking to spend £2k max. Not sure whether to go for Plasma or LCD :(

Any recommendations welcome :)

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you mate.

Word on Avforums is that the Panasonic PX60 plasma is pretty much up there with the best of them, tends to suffer little with screen burn and displays SD/analogue broadcasts better than most.

Well I went with the samsung Le40M6 which was the 2005 eisa award winner and looks very sexy. It was just sort of 2k but maybe a little cheaper now as when I bought at xmas they were very new on the market so not many around.

My needs include PC use and Xbox 360 hence my choice of a TFT but if you simply want the best SD and DVD playback you may want to go for a plasma assuming the extra weight, heat, fan noise and screen burn issues aren't a worry.

i have the Pioneer 436FDE and i can't fault it at all, colour is awesome and the general picture quality is amazing....... and i haven't even tried a HD source on it yet.

To be fair i don't think there is a lot in it between the Panasonic and the Pioneer.

Also one of the reasons why i went for the Pioneer is the external media box that it comes with. All connections from my Sky+ DVD and Video player go into the media box, from the media box there is a single cable to the plasma display. this meant i only had to run the power cable the "media" cable into the wall, not scarts, compoments and HDMI cables.

I am having the exact same problem. The two I have been looking at are:

Panasonic TH42PV500
Pioneer PDP436XDE

I like the separate connection box idea, but there is a £500+ difference!

What about for gaming, how do people rate them for that?

I bought the FDE for £1820.

The XDE comes with a built in Freeview tuner where as the FDE only has a analogue tuner. This isn't an issue for me as i have Sky.

The panel is the same but yes you are correct there is an extra HDMI connection plus a media card facilty on the XDE
