Hi,

I currently have a 8800 GTS in my system but I have the need for HDMI (with sound) so need a new card.

System is mainly used for media playing & internet although I would like to be able to play the odd game or two, gf plays Civ IV a lot.

Only want to spend £60 max, how would a card like the HD 3650's compare to my 8800 GTS?

Edit: forgot to mention also want silent card.

Thanks

Nige.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is the difference?

I need sound over HDMI as I want to connect my PC which is in my spare room to my PC in the bedroom and a single HDMI cable would be the easiest method just need a usb cable then for the remote.

S/PDIF only has the bandwidth for Dolby Digital and DTS Surround or two channel stereo. So if you wanted the lossless and higher quality tracks on HD/DVD so BD you'd lose out.

I just use the output on my soundcard with a splitter cable to plug into my TV, was £2.50.

I guess I could do that, it would certainly be a cheaper option.

I wanted to use one HDMI cable for sound and video as it would be neater as I need about 10m of cable but your option will save £££'s so will give it some serious thought, many thanks.

You could also just use a long optical or coax cable if the TV takes a S/PDIF input, will be better than the analogue output from onboard sound if that's what you're using.

I have the choice of on-board or a Creative X-Fi for output, not got the tv yet but I am looking to buy a 22" Samsung will check the inputs before I buy but I think they are pretty comprehensive.

So in terms of performance how will my 8800 GTS compare to the likes of a 3650 etc?
